The Virus thread - Is COVID-19 affecting your training program?
Re: Is COVID-19 affecting your training program?
It's time-shifting everything a little bit for me. I'm still able to get off work at 4:30, and pick up my son at daycare, but my wife is a nurse manager and has COVID meetings every day at 5. I wait for her to get home, then (at least this week) I go to our local grocery store to see if they've gotten any produce or bread back in stock. Usually by the time I get back home, dinner is almost ready, then I have to parent until I get him to bed around 8-9, so rowing doesn't happen until 10:00 pm sometimes. We've gotten almost everything we need now, so the grocery store trips will happen less, although my mother-in-law showing up interrupted my planned 10k Wednesday night.
Started rowing 4/22/19.
PBs: 1min - 314m, 500m - 1:40.0, 1,000m - 3:45.3, 4min - 1,082m, 2,000m - 7:41.0, 5.000m - 21:18.2, 6,000m - 25:41.6, 30min - 7,010m, 10k - 44:40.5, 60min - 13,112m

Re: The virus thread
Been prepping my 8th grader to break the 5 minute 1600m before transitioning to the 400m for track season (assuming there is one). I have been running again too along with him. I have a home gym, full setup, but was missing a rowing machine. Ordered a Model D, should be here on Wednesday, according to UPS. So, hopefully next Wednesday I can stop running and go back to rowing 5-6 times a week. Getting cabin fever though.

Thankfully I have got my own erg now that the gym has been closed and Pilates class temporarily stopped too.

Re: The virus thread
No impact apart from overcrowding at home. I picked up a C2 in January and haven't looked back. Not related to the pandemic but erging at home makes me lazy to do other core work and stretching....need to change that.

Re: The virus thread
I continue to row on my home erg. Still following my marathon training plan. 27km planned for this sunday. My gym has closed this week which is unfortunate. I have minimal weights at home.
As a physician, work has been crazy and unpredictable. We are awaiting the onslaught of critical care patients in my hospital system over the next 2-3 weeks. All elective surgery has been cancelled at this time and we are limiting our office patients.

Semi Lockdown over here, but lots of people ignoring it, certainly the young, this will get much worse the next few weeks. Hospitals are not be able to cope.
Here, in the South, the netherlands, can,t cope anymore, carnaval caused a wide spread, people are taken to other parts of the country.
Have some stuff, so can train. Skierg, kettlebells.
try to not go out, apart from walking the dog, but see much more people in the forest compared to normal. Also, ofcourse need to buy food, but limit that to a lot at once. And no, not buying toilet paper

Re: The virus thread
Panic buying here in SA, but the number of cases across Aus is very low. Hopefully with the sparse population it'll be more of a slow burn.
Gyms still open, but three at least twenty somethings today ignored the hand sanitiser that's compulsory on entry and exit. They probably feel pretty invincible, and they probably won't be very ill if/when they get it. But it's not about them - it's about trying not to infect the vulnerable.

Re: The virus thread
Bad news and no play at the gym makes Dean a dull boy!
No access to the rowers or gym. Got mats and some weights as the Mrs is a Pilates teacher and I have a 5 ft long pull in bar and dip bars as well in the garden.
Lots of stretching, core work and calisthenics it is then.
No PB’s coming anytime soon.
Stay safe everyone.
Cheers

Re: The virus thread
Well to be fair, if its the hand pump style, operating the pump on it transmits disease, and using soap and water really is more effective.max_ratcliffe wrote: ↑March 21st, 2020, 6:38 amPanic buying here in SA, but the number of cases across Aus is very low. Re: The virus thread
I think Purell wipes(or equivalent) are the best. At the gym, I have been wiping the machine before and after every use.
As of today, I just ordered a Model D for home (wife gave permission).
I will still wipe it down. But only at the end, since it will have been wiped by after the last use anyway.

I clean mine after each use with a rag and a spray bottle that has water, diluted ammonia, and a drop of dish soap. It works pretty well. Removes the black stuff on the rollers, the rail stays shiny, and gets the handles and the seat clean. Not saying this for anti-viral purposes, rather a suggestion for home gym maintenance.

Yes, congratulations! It's very convenient to have one at home. Mine makes a big difference in my quality of life, if I'm faithful to it.

Re: The virus thread
You're lucky. C2 have suspended sales of all of their ergs due to such high demand and the Model Ds are going for at least £1500 on ebay in the UK for a decent model!!letti001 wrote: ↑March 21st, 2020, 1:06 pmI think Purell wipes(or equivalent) are the best. I use multi purpose cleaner every time on the handle and the monorail, not least as the black streaks appear after most sessions

Re: The virus thread
Fortunately for me in these tougher times i have everything i need at home, and have trained this way for years, so as far as training goes i'm totally independent. I have also lived alone for about a decade, so self isolation is completely the norm in my case! Though i'm not sure how much longer i will be able to go outdoors for walks etc before a complete lockdown is enforced upon us all. I worry for the elderly in this situation, there are scary times ahead for them. Mankind has had a reality check on just how powerless we really are.
Stay safe everyone and please take extra care.
