Welcome back for the 2009 rowing season - Orion and Helen! Here's a little FYI for the team:

Many of us may know of the constellation Orion (the Hunter) from all our moon and stargazing times. I know I thought "how appropriate" when Orion joined our team on the lunar mission. Orion, your name is even more appropriate than I first thought: The NASA website indicates that Orion is the name of a new lunar crew exploration vehicle:

America will send a new generation of explorers to the moon aboard NASA’s Orion crew exploration vehicle. Making its first flights early in the next decade, Orion is part of the Constellation Program to send human explorers back to the moon, and then onward to Mars and other destinations in the solar system. Hey, we might have a future astronaut on our team!

Season meters as of 6/365 = 949,749 m (we're going to hit 1 MM today!)

Total meters on the day = 174,087 m

63 percent of oars in the water. Wowzer!

Milestones:

Dan - Half Marathon Man (4 - really this time)

Million Meter Watch (Lifetime):
1 MM - Gina with 46K to go! You're in the red zone now!
3 MM - Jan with 31K to go!
6 MM - Dan with 53,326 m to go!

Today's meters rowed by:Image

Kristine 26,839 m - is there an HM in there?
Dan 21,097 m
Darryl 14,128 m
AJ 11,018 m
Chris 11,000 m
Tim 10,300 m
Barbara 10,111 m
Rowin 10,000 m
Tony 7,954 m
Mary 7,241 m
Steven 7,149 m
Pat 7,040 m
Joe 6,526 m
Andrea 6,148 m

Peter G 3,000 m
Helen 2,000 m
Orion 1,536 m

carried off

Post by Calamity » May 7th, 2008, 12:28 pm

No, ha ha, I have not been carried off Chris. I have been in Alaska for business the first few days of the rowing season and am back now. This, coupled with my partner delivering lots of spring babies and that someone has to be home with our kids and not at the gym while this happens - has limited my workouts the last few days.
Hope to be back in action soon.

Kristine,

The one thing I admire most about this team is no one takes credit for a piece not rowed.

Hi Lisa,

Just checked and you have 16,276m.

You might have in "cache" the old, 2008 standings.
Those "froze" on April 30.

The link to the 2009 standings is:
http://www.concept2.com/sranking03/chal ... gs2009.asp

Welcome to all new members and welcome back to the old crew!

Trying to get back to the 5000m/day, but still a bit behind...

Thanks much to Jan for keeping us motivated by posting the daily results!
W/o you all I would have fallen more often off the boat, w/ or w/o duct tape ;).

Happy rowing!

Thanks to Mitch for the info regarding sending the name to the moon.
Fits us LUNA-TICS perfectly. Our family is on the list now :)

The link, for anybody else interested:

Andrea,

We're not letting you fall off the boat! You've got one of the best 2000 m times - we want to brag about you when you win the CRASH B regionals!
Go Andrea!

And you think I'm kidding.....ha ha ha ha ha....ha! Well, we hope to convince you to participate! :D

Lisa,

You're showing up on my puter. Welcome back.

Andrea

Thanks for the info on Lisa.

Kona2,

You're showing up on every bodies puter. Bad dog, bad dog. it. Stay!

Chris and Barb,
Looks like a nice head to head going on here. May the best man win, oops woman win. I know it's all in fun but have at it.

About my log book: I have to log as many meters as possible while Jane is in the tank. Since she is an animal, she will eat my lunch when she resumes erging.

POI, opened the pool today. Finally reached 90 degrees. Anybody up for a swim come on down. Got to enjoy the out of doors before it gets to hot(humid). While you all are enjoying the out of doors I will be erging in the A/C. FL is way to hot in the summer to do much out side. Really it's the humidity.

The local rowing club ( Halifax Rowing Association: to be referred as as HRA) will be having a learn to row day Sat May 10th. If any Luns want to attend I have rooms to rent @ 50 cents. First come basis.

Andrea , knowing you, you'll be back on the 5K board real soon.

I'm off to enjoy a hike with 50 6th grade kids tomorrow. Don't know if I'll have time to erg. So, AJ, go ahead, take a day off!

Hear-hear, and huzzahs to Jan. I just got home and HAD to read all the new posts before going to bed ... then I notice that Dan is trying to make trouble between Barbara and me ... so, rising straight to the bait, I think I just have time to do 4K to beat the midnight cut-off ... B)

Chris
(50 cent room rentals in North Florida ... sounds sweet! I may have to go to DisneyWorld.)

The Real Kona

Post by Kona2 » May 8th, 2008, 10:09 am

Image

The real Kona is on the right ---- She's the better swimmer, so Kihei (the dog on the left) generally grabs on to whatever is being retrieved and let's Kona pull them both to shore! This began when Ki was learning to swim, starting panicking and slapping at the water (not unlike humans), and Kona immediately went out to get her - and pulled her in. It was so cool to see!
