Last week I put a big effort into the rugby test - 11:04.3. I didn't think I had much left but was determined to go under 11 mins come what may.

Last effort tonight due to holiday commitments so sat down, and worked out my paces. I wrote them on a piece of paper with a big black marker.

1000 @ 1:44
750 @ 1:42
500 @ 1:40
250 @ 1:40
750 @ 1:42
Total Time = 11:04, Obviously not right.

So I change the writting on the last 250 & 750 with the big black marker so they read:

250 @ 1:38
750 @ 1:40

Total time now = 11:00, right I thought, just need to go under each one by .1 of a sec and I'm home. Knew this would be though.

Did everything to the paper, and nearly passed out on the last 20m of the 750 - I was in confident mood. Until I read the report and found I'd rowed the 250 at 1:40 pace

NO!!! - 11:00.3

Splits:

1:44.0
1:41.9
1:40.0
1:39.4
1:39.8

I was well under the 250 is EASY!!!!
Doh, Doh, DOH!!! Stupid pen!

Bad luck fella, that was some effort to get so close.

It's the Toddler every time. You know it, I know it, the camera knows it, and the ugly people police know it too!

As I said before I'm going to see me butty who lives in Florida. I phoned him to ask if there was anything he wanted from the UK. Here is his shopping list:

Soluable Paracetamol (For the Mrs),
Swartz packets of Tikka Jalfezi,
A Jar of Sharwoods Mango Chutney,
A Packet of Popadums,
Marmite Crisps.

The Welsh boy misses his curries!!!

Hope Florida is fun.

I did a stupider thing than you on the Rugby test today. Did the 1K not quite as fast as I hoped, but still well under my last go, (turned out it was a pb by 1 sec) and then got daydreaming during the rest 3 min and totally missed the start of the 750. The pace boat was half way across the river by the time I noticed. I knew if I tried to catch up I'd end up slower over the long haul by last time and there was no way I was going to just reset and do the whole thing over with that fast a start. So I guess I have to try again tomorrow or Thursday.

Where's the dunce cap smilie? I need one!

carla,
As I only have access to a PM2 I persuaded a fitness instructor in the Gym to do my timings, much easier when you don't have to pay any attention! He even added up the times!
Downside is he has been hasseling me to do another attempt, did try but went off too fast and burnt out, will try again Friday. Not looking forward to 10k I thought I was getting close to you and Krista with last months challenge but obviously I was dillusional!
Oh well got to keep trying.

Helen, you did outsprint me last month, fair and square. How do you like endurance distances?

I am really looking forward to the 10k, personally. I think that maybe with longer sessions, I make up for a lack of power with a decent endurance. The 10k should be a good one for all the lightweights and women, after these last two months of brutish sprinting. :)

Phil is back to fighting form with skinnier legs having lazed around for 12 weeks. Docs said he can row, sail and drive again, he's thrown away the crutches and brace. Not beforetime as my sympathy was wearing a little thin :!: There is only so many times you can discuss the size of a knee

Good to hear of Phil on the mend.

Chippy,

You ARE on holiday next week - Its just that as your *** DELETE - SPAM *** fitting its a busman's holiday.

You know I love you pal, but the worst thing about being in Florida all week is I won't get to see your face, when you cut the bottom of that door slightly wrong and it don't match the floor - you know what I'm talking about, remember my bathroom door???

As I said - Your time will come, when it does I'll probably be down a dark cellar, knee deep in hydraulic oil, trying to stop the leak!!!

Tidy, see you next week, or if they the internet in America possibly sooner - Bye all.
