Hello - finally back
Hello - finally back
Hello Everyone,
I am finally back home after 6 weeks away. Typically for me, the first thing I did once I got home was get sick, so I have not started back on the rower. After more than 7 weeks away from rowing, I need some motivation (nagging) to get me going. I REALLY hope to get back to a good routine, starting TOMORROW!!! Posting goals on the forum has worked for me in the past, so I hope it will work this time as well. I was surprised to see the forums had moved...what else has happened since I left at the end of January? Were results ever posted for the January Challenge?

Hi Emilia,
Good for you for deciding to get back in the saddle. How many meters do you plan to fit in before the end of March? Tell us and then we can encourage you to achieve it. March Madness is still going on so maybe you could aim for that 5K a day and who knows, maybe you will get lucky and win a prize! or if that seems too daunting maybe 5K every other day and get be ready to really hit it in April (April is the last month of the ranking year, so it's your last chance to post new times for 2005/2006). Keep us posted!

March Madness - Late Start
Hello and Thanks for the Encouraging Words-
Since March is almost OVER, I will try to do 10K/day for at least 5 days/week until the end of the month. I might even reach a nice round 100K that way. I am feeling ALMOST NORMAL today , so I will start NOW!

Did It!
10,000m done - it's not any easier after a long break. I gained LOTS of weight while traveling also . I refuse to check on the scale until I've been rowing at least 2 weeks - so I'll look on April Fools Day. Too much eating out, and eating just because the food was there, so I have a lot of work to do in the next few months. I'm still better off than I was before the holiday challenge, though. My time today was much closer to the times I'd been getting in January, rather than to my times in November '05.

I would think 10K a day after a 7 week layoff a pretty stiff schedule. You must be younger than me! Any time I have a significant period of not rowing, it takes me a while to build back up to 10K a day, and even when I'm rowing a lot and producing good times, I only average about 40K a week. Good work on your first day back!

Welcome back!
I tried to get a head of you while you were gone but you are still WAY ahead of me.
April Fools day is a great day to weigh. When you are away from home, you don't have the same control over your life and you have to go with the flow. SO don't worry about the scale. Work on getting back to good eating and exercising habits. The rest will come.
Glad you are back!

10K a day - too much?
Hi Carla,
I'll have to see if 10K a day is too much. In January, with the challenge, I was often doing two 10K sessions a day. I was also taking off only about 1 day a week, so I thought 2 days off/week sounded reasonable for starting back. I did get in a minimal amount of exercise while I was away - some walking, and a tiny bit of snowshoeing (not much snow!). If it ends up being too much, I'll do less (or split the 10 K into multiple shorter sessions). The main obstacle, I think, will be trying to fit the time in while having house guests for the next month.

Hi Ben,
I haven't done the 100K yet, just the first 10K. I just edited my post from last night where I typed in all the zeros for my row AND the K symbol! It was bedtime, I needed a shower, and I guess I wasn't paying attention. We'll see how far I get. I was in New England (VT, MA, NH) for the past 6 weeks. We moved to WA last summer after 19 yrs in MA, so it was nice going back and seeing all our friends.

Holy Cow! This sure has a different look! Unfortunately I got infected and had to wipe out my hard drive and start over. Lucky for me that I had just copied everything over to a removable hard drive a short time before. Anyway, things have gotten crazy and this is the first chance I've had to figure this new forum out.
I didn't realize we had to register again. O.K. - now I'm back. Are all the old posts gone? I'm afraid that rowing has been the last thing on my mind lately. I will be moving to SC in a couple of months, and I have to sell my condo, pack, yada, yada, yada...
Once I get settled, I will get back in the saddle. I'm afraid my tail feathers have suffered from the lack of rowing! I'm glad to see that everyone else is hanging in there! I'll catch up with you all soon. I just wanted to say hello and let you know I was still around!

Egadzooks! My duck is gone! I see I have a lot of work to do.

Buffles! Glad to hear from ya's again!
Better that your computer got infected instead of that New Year Knee, hey?
And you're moving to SC?? That'll be a switch. I was born in Charleston, SC...which might explain why I really, really like fried potatoes, fried with, um, bacon grease.
And I hate moving. Packing, throwing stuff out, unpacking, wondering what was I thinking when I kept this and throwing more stuff out....
Keep in touch when you land in the new nest!
