Someone help them, for they know not what they do.......
The question is more "do they care" ?

This has been going on for so long now it will be starting to turn people away :!: and we saw what happened on this forum when it had a series of issue (it has never recovered)

Perhaps we should all start sending emails to C2.com saying that we wanted to order a rower from the UK site but it was down so we bought a water rower instead.
I reckon they'd soon get it fixed! :)

can't we go and set up home somewhere else away from the C2 sites? how much would it cost and how much work would it involve? has anyone run a forum before?

It's not that expensive to run a board. I could do it from my hosted web space.. but it's a full time job keeping your eye on it.

I think it was Chris Rowe who said that they were moving stuff between servers some time this week.. looks like it's ongoing.

It costs almost nothing. Even less if using free software like phpBB (though personally I prefer vBulletin). Someone like me, for example, already has a dedicated server with terabytes of traffic allowance, and could host one with no additional outlay whatsoever (under c2ctc.com, for example).

As for work, again, almost none at all. Install phpBB or vBulletin, and tell people to sign up. Job done. =)

I have run a fairly small gaming community forum for nearly 4 years now, and it doesn't take a huge about of looking after. The occasional moderation of posts (and I have a small band of moderators to help with that), and trying to combat "spam" registrations, is really the only work involved.

However, whether we really need or want to break away from C2UK is another matter. I expect they'll get things sorted out soon, and we'll all be happy as Larry again. I suppose it could have some advanages insofar as being masters of our own domain (no pun intended), like being able to set up private sub-fora for individual teams, rather then just having private diaries.

Send email to webmaster [at] concept2 [dot] co [dot] uk. Chris Rowe should pick that up.
