How about the new leader on the Annual Meters board:

Joel Smylie, 16 years old, averaging 171,241 per day.

I'm impressed.

Even more impressive in that he wasn't on the concept2 board long enough to get cached in any search engine - so he's accomplished those meters in a very short amount of time.

Somehow, I'd guess this is a typo.

It's a prank. I'm ok with it though...I believe the guy. :P

False Meters

Post by aikon » September 26th, 2006, 5:42 pm

I am jumping on this a bit late. However, I too question Mr Ferris and his amazing meter count. I noticed him a few months ago but thought nothing of it. Then this morning I noticed that some Australian team is right up there. I look into their team page and there I find Mr Ferris. He likes to jump teams a bit.

My personal feeling is that he is full of BS. I row with RowPro, each morning I log my meters via upload and then check to see where I lie, its a kind of motivation. I am in awe of Erics meters and emailed him to say so. I have no problem with Eric questioning Mr Ferris meters, Erics meters are built on hard work, and so are mine. I am not saying that all of Mr Ferris's meters are false, just a few million!

When someone logs their meters on this site you are setting a level of competition, your saying to the rowing public "see, look what I have done" you could just log them in a book by your rowing machine and not make it public, that would be a lot easier, but your not, your making a statement that assumes a level of accuracy and honesty (unless you post a rider that states that it is a work of fiction)

My wife is an outstanding athlete, (She was the 9th female overall in the Chicago Triathlon) she trains 4 hours a day 7 days a week, she highly doubts the time commitment needed to compile these meters. I tend to listen to people (Eric, My Wife) that put the hours in that most of us can’t even begin to think about.
