About 105 minutes of UT2 work on the end of a snow scoop this morning, digging out from a 2 day blizzard. 17 minutes of UT2 this afternoon on the erg, 3905 meters, followed by some much needed stretching.

Happy New Year all.

Was going to have a rest today, but took part in the 10K paddle event on-line. 10K seems so short after doing a couple of HM's during the week. Took the 1st 5K very easy then just up'd the rate a bit of the 2nd half.

10K 1:50.3 (36:45.1) at 25spm.

Total of 15000m today.

Sir Pirate

Well I managed to get a 10k paddle in during last nights shift. First 7.5K at 19/20spm and 2:00 pace but this felt awful, I was bored and it just felt sloppy and hard work!. Raised the spm to 23/24spm for the last stint this brought the pace to around 1:55, felt easier, more comfortable, technique felt better and HR hardly rose maybe 5bpm. Strange! I think this is what will stop me ever doing really long rows, I'm just not comfortable at very low speeds.

Thought I would start the New Year steady so aimed for 60mins at no more than 20 spm, varying the intensity of the pull.

After 60mins had done around 14,600m so decided to round up to 15,000, then decided may as well "round up" to a HM ( not done one before - previous longets distance was 15,021m for 60 mins).

First 15,000m had been steady anyway so just carried on to see what HM would be like; 1:27:01. Had a look at the rowing board in the gym to see how it compared and it stood good comparison as a first attempt.

I think that HMs may become addictive!

Did a 10k this morning at 18-20 spm and 2.05 pace, I like it at this pace/rate as one can get the stroke right on each and every one, but troubled by earache again, so stopped at that, had set 20k on the monitor.

Paul it looks like your 1/2M needs a good seeing to!

Only ever done one HM and at the moment 60mins still feels like an epic... getting better tho.

Peter, nice first HM time, good effort!

Hi Chickenlegs, another powerfull session there, whats your goal here 60mins? A sneaky goal of mine is 60mins @20spm and breaking the 16K, I've done 50mins at the required pace and rate just gotta convince myself to go for it again and squeeze out another 10mins.

Well I managed another 10K during last nights shift at about 5AM.
10K Fartlek, strapped in this time. Alternating pace each 500m 1:50 and 1:45. Was hoping for 1:48 pace to break the 36min mark but with 200m to go I was at 1:47.4 managed a sprint and got it down to 1:47.1 with a time of 35:43.0 Very Very chuffed with this. New PB by 24secs. Rated high throughout 28/29 spm, always do when I strap in.

Paul,
yes, my goal is 60' at 1:50.0 at whetever rate feels comfortable - looks like it will be 22 spm.

only 5 more minutes beyond last piece.

60' at 20 spm as you mention involves a bit more power on the stroke, but if you can do it, good for you.

i might try it too later, but i there only so much power i can get out of my chickenlegs...
