Diameter and length of screw holding monitor arm?

Anyone know the diameter of the screw (of the threaded screw part, not the head) and its length, of the screws holding the monitor arms onto a Concept2 Model D rower?

Beware it is an American imperial size. 3/8" thread, 16 threads per inch, 3" long.

Which one in the arm ?

The arm is held to the rower with a 4inch bolt the monitor is held to the arm with a 3inch bolt. They are stainless steel.

Annoyingly they are imperial 3/8 diameter for us in the metric world and a 10mm bolt doesn't fit.

I just happened to have a nice 3/8 black button head capscrew from a treadmill that was just over 4inches long that was ideal for attaching the PM5 cradle to the side of the rower as well as the arm.

Just an idle curiosity but this doesn't seem like an item that would typically need replacing? Did you lose it some how?

Thank you. While I enjoy metric as well, I have no fear of imperial measurements in the U.S. ; ) Though I feel your pain with the difficulty replacing the bolt. I've been through the same.

I'm making a laptop tray sitting at the level of the bolts attaching the arm to the rower. It's very easy to do. I can do it by resting the tray on the bolts and having the tray held in place by a bar behind and in front of the arm, while the tray sits on the bolts, or, I can attach to arms to the bolt, with a bar in front of the arm below the tray to hold the tray up. It's an easy way to watch and listen to videos while rowing. Recently I "cycled" through Portugal while rowing. No need for any expensive monthly subscription for video : )

Post up a picture of the finished product, I'm sure others would like to be able to make one for themselves.

Utilizing the bolt through the PM5 monitor got very difficult compared to the older PM3/4 when you could simply come off the side of it that was flush to the fastener on both sides.

What were you using the bolt through the PM5 monitor for?

I'm focusing on the bolts that hold the PM5 monitor arm to the rowing machine. Any glance at it will show how easy it would be to attach a tray. You can cut out a cardboard model - make the tray large enough to go past the monitor arm - and with a cut out in the center just wide enough to accommodate the monitor arm, but narrow enough to sit on the bolts.

By not needing a subscription, I was referring to machines like Peloton and Aviron. It's crazy how much some people are willing to throw away monthly, in perpetuity for someone to lead them rowing.

I have had all sorts of setups over the years, at one point I has two alloy brackets coming up either side of the PM2 monitor to run two monitors on the one rower using a Model C that I stuck a second pickup sensor on the other side opposite the existing one. I was running a PM2 and a PM3 at the same time.

The PM2 was dead easy to bring up brackets and mount a small monitor on, the PM5 is now just not suited to that at all.

If I had a small iPad or something I would be making my own cradle that just sat on top of the PM5 like the C2 cradle that already exists to hold your phone, I mean they only weigh like 500 grams.

Also I wouldn't pay for software with just nice scenery but the likes of Zwift and RowPro are worth paying for if this type of thing motivates you to row.

I don't consider Rowpro to be in the same category as high-priced monthly fee services like Peloton, as Rowpro can be purchased for a reasonable one-time fee. And agreed, if it motivates you, and you actually do it and it benefits you, that one-time fee, or a lower monthly fee can be worth it.

Warning: Do not use an undersized bolt to secure the monitor arm! The factory installed 3/8" diameter bolt will withstand several thousand pounds of shear and tensile force, and all of that strength is needed to hold the Performance Monitor safely in position. Concept 2 knows best.
