I am new here so I dont know much about rowing/the people here. With no disrespect towards anyone else, I believe we are amazingly lucky to have Xeno around. At what other site can we interact/talk with an OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST?

I am trying to improve me erg score. Should I follow Xeno's movement here religiously? Is this considered perfect form?
http://www.invernessrowingclub.co.uk/pe ... tml

Also, can someone give me some idea what Xeno's 2k split is like?

thanks!

I dunno about perfect form, but who am I to argue, I dont see any Olympic medals lying around my house
Must be pretty good all the same.

What I will say is;
Good strong catch position. Back straight, nice amount of body over. Shoulders strong but not tensed.
Quick leg drive, blending in the body, then the arms.
Strong finish, and nice quick hands around the turn into the recovery.

Dunno about now but he says in his signature that once he had a 5:53 2km. Thats a pretty handy 1:28/500m

I should be so lucky (but hey, im only a lightweight )

Some may say it is perfect. Others will see some errors. Almost ( ) anyone on the forum will think it is pretty good. It should be, as his erg score used to be 5:50-ish and he was Olympic medalist.

At the moment, his erg score is still sub 6:20, I think?

Tom

Thank you and Thank you again for your posts.

In a nut shell:

Is there perfect technique? Something close to it, but as we know there are no absolutes in this universe. Body types are different and so are the power applications of individuals. In rowing as a heavy weight I am not particularly tall or short, right in the middle at 190cm. I am still below 6min20sec. My technique is a mix of Australians, Italians, and KIWI.

I remember Marty (OZZY), my former coach, telling other coaches, that at one point you have to leave the technique at what it is and let the rower perfect it. That is what he did with me.

There are fundamentals such as straight arms against the leg drive, which I strongly support. Also, sitting up from the small of your back thus hinging from the hip joint. Without plugging the Technique DVD, I feel great that we have filmed those technical points. There are SO few products in the rowing market about proper rowing technique. We have to get the ball rolling.

Here is a quick explanation why I am currently with rowing as a career. I spent so much time rowing and being around knowledgeable coaches that this experience made me very passionate about health and rowing.

My mother was the frist person I coached in 1992 for the CRASHB sprint. She ended up winning her age category and became the proud owner of a hammer. There is no doubt that I inheritated her VO2max. I also enjoyed teaching her the psychology and physical training aspect of rowing.

Now, everyday I meet a new person who adopts rowing as a mean to stay healthy and maintain a good quality of life, powers me to push ahead in being a central figure to this highly unknown form of exercise.

This board has been great in giving me a platform to communicate from. I made great connections and I am very thankful for this. In order to simplify my goals in life, I condensed my goals to two priorities. First priority is to take care of my family. Second priority is to accomplish the first, by informing, motivating, and facilitating others to enjoy rowing, physically and mentally.

I wish you all a great weekend and all the strength to care of whose you share love with.

XENO
