In other news, I'll be doing a 24h solo row this weekend. Apart from a little cash being rounded up to help fund cancer research, I'm starting to regret it already :D
Congratulations on your 24h solo row--250706m! Quite an accomplishment!

Yes indeed! Awesome accomplishment on the 24hr.

And for those who may not be aware of it, Ewen did an inadvertent 4 hour 'warmup' before the 24 hrs, making it even more mind-boggling.

24 hrs and 250706 meters...both of those numbers are hard to comprehend. Amazing job!

WOW that's incredible! Great job! Do you have a link or somewhere to donate towards that cancer research for your row??

Thanks everyone!
I had a fundraiser going on Facebook/Instagram that I closed yesterday (with 1400 euros raised in total). A few non-social-network-using relatives donated directly at https://don.ligue-cancer.net/octobreros ... -don?_cv=1, but feel free to make a donation to the cancer research organization of your liking.

Hearty congratulations to Ewen for that epic row! After the RowPro glitch I would have binned the whole exercise, but that's some serious mental and physical strength to power through.

Also, well done to everyone who contributed to the FTC especially the huge contributors. I'm embarrassed to admit that my motivation wasn't where it should be, and I was well down the table, even after a good-natured tongue-lashing from one of the team via e-mail :).

I was very proud of myself for having fitted in a CTC on the last day of the month, even though I knew it wouldn't make a difference. And then I started questioning my memory skills when I came to enter it and realised that I hadn't done the correct challenge. I'd run out of time to go back upstairs and dial in the correct challenge, so that's another blank on my CTC record.

We're getting close to being eligible to choose the challenge, but that won't come around until March at the earliest it seems.

Glad you've survived the illness, Chris, and happy to see the charity row moved to January. I should be more ready for it, but I think we must ramp up the marketing effort for it early in the New Year, so we can fill all the timeslots, and get it into people's diaries.

All the best for a nice punchy CTC this month!

Dave

Hey everyone, I just want to pile on a bit and say Ewen's 24-hour ordeal was super-impressive - and I have absolutely no desire to even think about trying to match it! I posted my November CTC score today, but I'll probably give it another go later in the month - I was 14 meters off my PR and feel like I can do better.

I'm curious: Is anybody else doing Dark Horse Rowing's Rowvember workouts? I signed up and am 4/4 so far, and really feel motivated to do all 30. For months, I've typically logged two to four erg workouts a week along with two or three bike rides, so an every-day schedule like this is kind of daunting! I'm curious about other people's impression of the DHR Rowvember workouts - so far, the daily volume is a fair amount lower than what I'm used to, but the fact that it's every day makes it feel like it almost balances out.

Jsarche- I have watched numerous Dark Horse rowing videos on You Tube, but have never gone to their website. I have to check out the workouts you mentioned. Always on the lookout for motivation.

I am a fan of the Concept2 podcasts. The woman who does them (Cady) is not rah-rah/annoying, and has a nice style. The podcast workouts are interesting. There are about 100 workouts; new ones added every couple weeks...probably about 70% on the rower, with the balance on the SkiErg and BikeErg. They are usually 30-60 minutes. They are geared to all levels as the intensity depends on how hard you want to work. Prior to finding these podcasts, I'd just get on the rower and slog away for 30-60 minutes. The workouts are varied types of intervals and provide good reminders on technique, and make the time go relatively quickly....and provide a good sweat.

Curious if others have workouts they listen to? Always on the lookout for motivation.

Thanks for that suggestion! I’ll definitely give it a try.

Great start to the CTC. 4 boats and a mountain of ladies meaning we can fill at least 8 boats. Defo one my kids will do this month.

I've had one go and got a PB, although to be fair it is not one i've really had a go at. One to do at the end of a session when you are seriously warmed up.

Just taken delivery of the wattbike....love it!!

How are you getting on with them? I'm 10 for 10 and aiming for all 30. I'm finding the focus on consistent SPM to be really useful.

I’m 10/10 so far, too, and I totally agree with you. On my own, I always focus on pace, and I almost never (unless called for by the Cross Team Challenge) do a lot of short, sharp sprints, so these workouts have really shaken things up for me. I’ve surprised myself by being able to stick to this and feel very committed to finishing. I’ve even dropped a couple of pounds. I’m also noticing I’m feeling stronger on the erg. I’m planning to do a 2k time trial after this month, and I’m excited to see the effects.

Wow! VERY impressive results for a couple Forum Flyers in this month's CTC Challenge. Thus far out of nearly 400 rowers, Martin Stoeger is 7th and Dirk Moller is tied for 10th.
