Forum Flyers
Re: Forum Flyers
I am an idiot. Just finished this month’s CTC…and afterwards I read the challenge description more closely…and now those paces make a lot more sense! The CTC reported pace is based on 3 minute even…not 3min 20sec. That overstates the true pace by ~10%. I wish I had read that first…as I painfully crashed and burned while unsuccessfully trying to match the pace of some of my teammates!

I've already done all the ranking pieces up to and including 30' for 2021/22 on the rower and skierg. Sure they're all slow, low rate throwaways, but at least my Ranked Workouts screen is nice and fullskkipper wrote: ↑May 8th, 2021, 3:48 pmI agree Everything looks so... empty. I'm just getting started rowing. I've been trying to focus on my technique. Making sure I'm remembering to do legs body arms.... arms body legs rinse and repeat etc.... i did read the recommended forum topics from the New user guide. Those were helpful.
Today, i did the quick little ctc challenge. Turned that in, felt pitiful compared to everyone else's numbers. But after i did my 3:20, i set the pm5 to show me the drag factor out of curiosity. Set at 3, it was displaying as 78. Here is my question.... does that even seem right? I'm using the erg at my local gym. And when i say local gym i should also be clear that i live in a town of 3000, with a gym that only has one rower. And no one seriously rows. I manually updated the firmware myself with a flash drive. The gym owner/ director has said I'm really the only person that shows an interest in it. My point is, it doesn't have high traffic. (I will buy my own, if i can prove to myself that i will continue consistently using it.)
Is it possible even that that is correct? 78 drag factor at level 3?

I am going to try to use the "lifetime bests" section in History. I like seeing the improvement in my fastest rather than having throwaway times in there.macroth wrote: ↑May 10th, 2021, 11:09 amI've already done all the ranking pieces up to and including 30' for 2021/22 on the rower and skierg. Is there was a way to see other people's lifetime bests or ranked workouts from different seasons? Stinks to not be able to see those anymore (I like to be amazed at how fast you all are and set goals for myself! ). Can you see those for someone who is a training partner?

Yay! Glad to see you on the CTC! Don't feel pitiful, we all start somewhere and this is the best part, when you are learning and getting more fit and your pace improves a lot.Jmurray81 wrote: ↑May 10th, 2021, 10:53 pmI'm just getting started rowing. Changing the drag factor a little might help you get some more power - I think for women it is suggested that you set it at around 110. A drag factor of 78 at a damper setting of 3 is definitely possible. When my rower was new, a damper setting of 3 gave a DF of 98, and as more dust etc accumulates in the flywheel, that number will go down. There are posts around where people find that kind of DF on rowers at their max damper setting if they are not taken care of, so that's probably a decent number for a rower at a gym.
Technique is more important than speed for sure. It might be worth recording yourself from the side and posting it for tips. I was hesitant to do this for a long time because the internet can be a cruel place to women especially, but finally did after a year and it was worth it - seems like everyone is respectful and helpful and not here to just be a troll.

Thank you! I've been thinking of videoing myself as well... just trying to figure out how to do it. Logistically with a tripod etc... or have someone do it for me. I'll figure it out. I will play with the df to see about raising it. Thank you!skkipper wrote: ↑May 10th, 2021, 11:24 pmYay! Glad to see you on the CTC! Yes, that drag factor is low and very possible for a gym machine. A good example for why checking the drag factor rather than the damper number is important.

Re: Forum Flyers
It's still a solid result. And you're still in the lead boat too. Got to be pleased with that...
Even pacing might not have given you a better result but I bet it was less unpleasant than starting too fast
Re: Forum Flyers
Lead boat for now! Thanks! Yes finished with lower HR and SPM by using higher drag. Not sure if it was optimal, so maybe try again later.
Need to row a HM for that challenge before I get my 2nd pfizer shot on Friday just in case i have effects this time.

Wow, that's perfect, thanks! Super glad to be able to see all the times for an event over the years - I definitely notice a big shift in times between seasons for most events except the 2km and for some events/ages/weights there are only a few entries per season so it's nice to see a larger sample size.harrythehamster wrote: ↑May 11th, 2021, 6:58 pmTry Rankedworkouts at https://www.rankedworkouts.comskkipper wrote: ↑May 8th, 2021, 3:48 pm

And in the long-term, you can search yourself and sort by event will make it easy to see how my times change by season, too!

Had my first vaccine jab on Monday, no adverse reaction so far. Second one will be the tell tale end of the month. Plan to get a few ranking rows in before that. Looks like FF's going for a good month ctc wise and lots of boats.
