Knocked out the 10k ski. Faster pace than my 5k. Now I with I pushed it harder on 5k so I had a chance of being on first page of standing.
Fantastic !!!

5k was in week 1. Can't go back and do it now. Honestly, I'm glad I can't, because I'm mentally fatigued after the 10k. I'm scared of next year if I try to beat this year.

I think it was Jan that asked awhile ago about goals we set. Well, I just checked my baseline goal for the year off today. My goal is 1 million row and ski and 2 million bike meters for the year. I think I got the ski goal on Saturday and just me the rowing goal today. I'm close to 3 million biking so that was awhile ago. Now I can focus on the 10k ski. I'm also lifting 3 days a week, so I'm working around that as well. With the warmer weather the last few days, I'm starting to get the itch to want to bike outside. Our roads are super muddy and icy so will probably wait a bit.
Great work, congratulations Brett...!

Congrats Brett!

I captured the daily numbers somewhere in between shoveling the front and the back. Biggest snowfall in 5 years. Stay tuned for the posting. I’m working up to it (lots easier than a 10K ski effort for sure)!

The Mudness Challenge is indeed on the horizon! Like RIGHT THERE.

March 1–31

Row, ski or ride 5000 meters a day for 25 days in March to meet the basic Mud Season Challenge! Kick it up a notch and row, ski or ride 10,000 meters or more for 25 days in March to meet the advanced Mud Season Madness Challenge.

For those who are new to the team, or need a refresher: we celebrate the 5K with shamrocks, and the 10Ks with a pot of gold.

Almost a full moon! The next full moon occurs tomorrow ... and it is appropriately named the Snow Moon. Blue sky day.

With a little over two erging months remaining in the 2021 erging season, lots of opportunity abounds! One thing that I found myself looking at was the total number of erg hours throughout the season. 168 hrs is the equivalent of one week, the 24 x 7.... a mere 2 percent of your year. Sometimes seems like lots more when you're at the erg. I haven't reached the 168 hrs yet, but it is in my loosely held plan for this strange, complicated season.

And now for what I am calling A Little Bit of Both, some good and some baaaaad. It's all part of your daily entertainment.

The good:

Image
Taken on a farm in southern Oregon - sunrise is so fleeting, but this one is share worthy. At the bottom of the blue "funnel" is what the locals call the sleeping volcano...Mount McLoughlin. If the sun weren't blocked by the mountain, you wouldn't be able to see this.

The baaaad: (bracing myself for Zach's booooo)

Small community news is often so different from what we are blasted with in the urban and suburban areas. One item that caught my attention in the SkyHi News was from the police blotter for the county. "A dog and pig were seen on US Highway 34 in Granby." There were so many possibilities with this simple statement. I suppose the dog and pig were just on the lam, though. Even my Mom would say that's cringeworthy. Snort. Keep smiling!

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 2.27.21

Post by Kona2 » February 28th, 2021, 12:14 pm

Here we are on the precipice of another multi-challenge month: Mud Season, World Erg, World Rowing Sprints...but sometimes we need to look beyond the ones that are most immediately in front of us. Need to look at May specifically. What's coming up then...besides the start of another NEW erging season, we've got the Marathon and Century Challenges. There are many temptations in this erging business, and one of them is the word "marathon." And once one person on the team completes one, Marathon fever hits the team. So, since we KNOW it's coming, just planting the seed that this is a really good time to start training for those longer distances so you can complete them comfortably. Ok, maybe not comfortably, but still alive. There are some good resources in the training sections in Concept2's chronicles. I always thought a good plan was to work up to half marathons, complete those half marathons on a consistent basis (more than once a week), and then do a few days where you have consecutive ones. MOST teammates do not have the discipline to work up to the marathon distance by hitting milestones of 15K, 30K then 42K with spacers in between events. But some do. Surprisingly, it does seem to help to take a couple days off before you actually go for the long distance when the marathon is in your line of sight. You won't earn a medal to hang around your neck, but you will earn a pin that says 42,195 ... and every time you see it, you'll remember what that completion took to do. Happily, the Marathon and Century Challenges include half marathons and half century milestones for us lesser mortals. Seems like Brett did all of them last year.

Whooooooosh !!! That's the sound of you and your erg flying through yet ANOTHER month!!

Image GIVE ME FIVE! OR TEN !!

ImageHow You Can Be A Winner- Mud Season Madness Challenge

Row, ski or ride at least 5000 meters a day (2500 meters for kids and adaptive athletes) during the month of March and enter your meters in your online logbook. Note: BikeErg meters are counted as half when applied to the challenge.

During the month of March, we will hold a prize drawing every day from all of the people who complete at least 5000 meters that day (2500 meters for kids and adaptive athletes) and enter it in their online logbook. The more days you complete 5000 meters, the more days your name is in the prize drawing! On randomly selected days during March, we will also draw for an additional prize, from those who complete at least 10,000 meters (2500 meters for kids and adaptive athletes).

Prizes are Concept2 clothing. Drawings will be held at (or soon after) noon the next weekday following the challenge day, so be sure to enter your meters promptly! We will post names of winners on the website.
Concept2 folks get weekends, too, so be patient in waiting for the postings to occur!

No matter what year, the pattern is the same. Stay in the hunt for as long as you can!

I believe the criterion is 5000 meters for each of 25 days in March for the basic level and 10000 per day for 25 days for the higher level. I didn't see a reference to 25 days in the summary below. I may have miss3d it. If so, I apologize.

True - for the Challenge completion. You can, however, still win a prize on each of the days - without completing the Challenge. I know, runs counterintuitive to some of our thoughts about completion equals winning, but sometimes you have to start with just that one day...and erging the meters for that one day!
