Suitable oil for the model D
Hello,
I recently bought myself a rower and was wondering about the types of oil that are most suitable. On the product manual it states that 3in1 or 20W oil is best. How ever those are not available to me right now but what i could find is 20W50, API SL 5000 gasoline engine oil. I have no idea what these numbers are. Can you please tell me if its suitable ?

Refers to weight, or how thick or resistant to flowing. (Not a chemist. Just my average "Joe Blow" explainin') Don't use multi weight, it'll be too thick at room temp. Go to pharmacy & get some mineral oil.

Amazon "kindly" emailed me suggestions:

For all I know it might just be 3-1 oil re-labeled.

Personally I don't have any interest in the products have 3-1 oil
Sorry if this caused any issue

Re: Suitable oil for the model D
I have 3-in-one but the guy who serviced my rower said they now use a silicone spray oil instead as there's no mess.

It's because your URL includes the word kitchen which is on the banned offensive words list due to the number of kitchen cabinet spammers we used to get on this forum.

I've always used the same degreaser and oil I use on my bike chain.

I was thinking of using motorcycle chain spray as it has MoS2 in it... but nah, it's a bit thick.
If the chain and sprocket wear out "too fast", I'll make the switch, but 3 in 1 is fine for now.

Swear by Xtreme Super Duty 20wgt white mineral oil myself. Get some on ya no sweat. Kinder to the skin, the innards and the baby’s bum than say Dextron with Balonium 6000 or ‘The Good Stuff’ known to cause excessive labelling in California. Keep my bottle under the kit chen zinc which has a tasteful pleated curtain covering its underthings. Cabinetry, drawers and the like cause storage problems such as finding space to install larger cabinets with more drawers. I prefer Shaker pegs. Tis a gift to be simpleminded!

I use the 3 in one as mentioned in this thread.
Re: Suitable oil for the model D
Browsing the Concept2 site I noticed the 3-1 oil for sale there.. only $4 which seems pretty reasonable: (I had found it on Amazon for $3.07 but usually it is quite a bit more)

Re: Suitable oil for the model D
Hi,
Can anyone from C2 confirm that its OK to use 100% Silicone oil used for treadmill belts for the model D chain?
I saw it in another forum but its not listed as an option in the formal documentation. I don't want to make a mistake and damage the rowing machine.
Thanks!
