I'm feeling your pain/burnout. I crave routine, and it seems each week my routine is changing due to my wife's work situation. In 5 weeks she's gone from working 8-5 in a heart clinic through the hospital as a nurse manager, to working night shift Monday-Wednesday in the hospital for what was supposed to be 9 weeks, to having a week off, to being back in the heart clinic but in a frontline role, to back as a manager this week. With her time off, we've been doing other projects at home, and my 4-year old son hasn't been sleeping well in his bed, so I've been sore and tired. The erg is becoming more and more forgotten, and I'm off to a horrid start to the season, meters wise.
[...] My daughter is a head nurse at a clinic in Colorado, with a one week on, one week off schedule while raising two young girls on her own. I can see how the change in routine can affect you. I think that's probably part of the problem. My son and his wife have been home from work on and off for the last 2 months and it's really disrupted my routine with my grandchildren (My son, his wife and children live with us).
[...] I encourage you to do something for yourself. Even if it's just a walk, it sounds like you need a little "me time". And sometimes, just typing it out and seeing it written down for others to read is cathartic. This forum is sometimes that for me, and they are very understanding.
Many thanks to all frontline workers, they are true heroes! And their families too!
Your overall well-being and your families' well-being is most important.
Sometimes it means letting the erg rest and taking a walk, or something else.
Meter and time targets can be energizing, but can also can be a burden.
I know that the LUNA-TICS boat is always there to pick us up after we "fall off" as I have experienced it many times ;).
Row wisely and stay healthy!
Well said :D And thank you.

I need a cheat sheet with everyone's real names. I feel so lame responding to your "handle".

Tonight's workout was something a little different - a rate capped 5k starting 'cold'. It's not as fun as the graph makes it seem.

That's an amazing coincidence, I did the same workout yesterday.

Well, my SR was 19, I only did it for 4k, and I was a lot slower. I know what you mean by "not as fun" , though :D

How did you get the scale to be more appropriate? I've tried the zoom feature but it does not seem to do what I want?

Ditto, and I am happy to opt in if K2 wants to publish one.

I am Andrew Stewart, by the way, if you are looking for me on https://log.concept2.com/team/2537.

Hah! What's tomorrows work out? I'm thinking of a slow 10k to give my body a bit of rest. Tonight was fun, but probably not useful for training purposes.

I've never seen a graph scale like yours did. You were super consistent on your stroke rate and pace - it's bizarre that it scaled out like that. I use ErgData on an old Android phone, if that helps you compare.

Edit: it looks like there's a crazy stroke on the far left that messed up the scale.

Awesome job on the half marathons Gary! I planned on doing something like that coming into the challenge but life just got busy. Oh well, we roll with the punches and adjust, right?

Thanks Brett, think I’d rather have done the 100k, that’s MEGA!!,

I may try for 1 more this week, nothing thing better to do with no baseball. Usually at this point in the year , I am freezing my a$$ off watching my son play, his team had a pickup secret practice/scrimmage the other night, it was a joy just to watch BP..

Better days are coming. Golf is on tv this weekend, they are letting us golf now too..

Stay safe
Gary

You have to go black market to watch live sports? That’s awesome. I’ve now completed 3 out of 4 categories. Will rest tomorrow and go for the last one on Friday. Wasn’t my plan, but seems like a cool way to do the challenge - 1 each of full and half marathon and full and half century. Just need a half century on the bike for the full set.

Image Another episode ... bunny trails of the mind

The Spring Series events: 6,000 m, 500 m, 30 min, 4 min (you only thought that would be easier), and the knockout 2,000 m were all distances, times that allowed for ranking of results. Funny thing about results, though - they are your reality, yet sometimes you don't want to share what that reality is with others. Fortunately, it's your choice.

So what happens if you want to rank your distance or time...and that's NOT an option?! Fast forward to the Global Marathon and Century. The half century event is not rankable. Naturally (surely you are not surprised) I contacted Concept2 to see how it was that an event that's been featured for a couple of years of the Global Marathon and Century was not among the selections to rank. Seriously, someone has to be last in a category and I was willing to assume that mantle.

But no. When asked, Dena H replied that Concept2 didn't have immediate plans to add the 50K event to the BikeErg Rankings...but would take it under consideration. But silver lining: they do hope to add the 10K and 20K Bike Erg distances to the rankings in the coming months. Not content to let my query rest there, I asked if Dena would share what is involved in the process of adding to the rankings. Here's her reply:

"For the BikeErg, it includes a firmware update to ensure that the monitor prompts for a full calibration when a ranking distance is programmed. Firmware updates don't happen overnight, by a long shot. They include bug fixes, new features (if any) and lots of testing before being rolled out to general release.
The next firmware update released will have the 10k and 20k distances. Beyond that is up for consideration. "

Thank you all for the atta girls - they are appreciated. You can save up some for a future time. I'm good for now. Hahaha! Got through the overwhelmed part with your help and danwho marshaling us over the finish line of the series. Haven't seen the official wrap up of the series yet. For the Lunies, you've proclaimed this an eye opening, resounding success - good for you on a personal challenge, good for us on a team level. That's what we all hope for - and your enthusiasm made it so. . Still working on the list of avatar to real person names.

Ski Erg Performance Series

I believe there are five Lunies with a SkiErg: Brett, Warnie, Steve , Joerg, Jantuut. Have any of you looked at, participated in,the SkiErg Performance Series? Seems designed for athletes and coaches to use in the dryland season between snow skiing and not. Not that a sprint series on the SkiErg is maybe what you want to think about doing after the indoor rower Spring Series...but still. Here's the info:

Test Periods
The test may be performed at any time during the month.

Post-season: May 1–31
Early summer: July 1–31
End of summer: September 1–30
Pre-season: November 1–30

Test Distances
The same distances are used every month so coaches and athletes can track progress.

Speed/Power: 30 seconds
Sprint: 1000m
Distance: 2000m
Distance: 5000m
