BikeErg v. Wattbike

Post by RR » December 23rd, 2019, 1:11 pm

Anyone else done a comparison between the BikeErg and WattBike?
My best for 30min on BikeErg is 15600 or thereabouts.
Did a 30min session on my son’s WattBike today and knocked out 17928m!
This would suggest different calibration settings on these.
I also haven’t done any training for 8 days so Obviously there’s a difference somewhere along the lines.
Next test will be to do a road bike session on a tried and tested route to determine the “real” situation.
66 going on 67. One time full on erger. Now Erging and BikeErging.
LWT is the norm.

Work done should correspond, if they both measure power and time accurately.

Thanks James, that was my initial thoughts as well.
Have access to Wattbike for another couple of weeks or so, so it will be interesting to see what happens when I knock out some interval sessions and will also give the 4000m TT a shot and compare it again with the ErgBike when I get home to France

Lots of experience of both.
You are making a nonsensical comparison. Wattbike gives far more metres for the same wattage than the BikeErg. I can do over 44km on the Wattbike for an hour, but am mid 35km for a BikeErg hour. Both of these are circa 340 watts.

Completely forget about distance. Train to watts over time. You can loosely compare wattage up to about 400w between both bikes. Over 400w you’ll find the Wattbike starts giving far more generous numbers. My BikeErg peak power is around 1150w, compared to a Wattbike peak of 1371w.

Think the nonsensical is a bit harsh, I’m merely a direct observation.
Otherwise your post makes sense.
