Now that I'm using the SkiErg again I am hoping to hit the 20K a day required (BikeErg). Guessign we don't have to sign up for this challenge and just do it?! Good luck to all, hopefully someone will win a prize.
I'm expecting mine tomorrow. Based on what I found on the Internet it's more upperbody than rower so I'm hoping it will be complementary to the rowing machine. What's your impression with your SkiErg?
Good luck to all in the upcoming challenges!

Truthy, definitely an upper body workout but I tell you what the legs get a workout too! Basically 35 squats a minute for as long as you last!! I like it, although I'm still new to it due to an injury while rowing last August. Just done a 40km ride tonight so probably a skierg tomorrow for a change. I made the mistake when i started at putting damper at 6 or 7 - I'm pulling on level 2 at the moment (but that's a lot to do with making sure I don't overdo my back). let me know how you get on. Easy to put together but if you can get someone to help it makes it easier.

Thanks, Warnie. I think I had better start with low settings until I get a better understanding.
I'll post my updates here. Also keen on hearing from other skiergers (is that a word?!) if they have tips/tricks/advice etc for a noob.
Hope they don't screw up the delivery and I receive it today.

A N T I C I P A T I O N...Truthy can hardly wait for the arrival of his new skierg! Once that delivery truck and driver bring the Big Concept2 Box to him, he'll drag it inside to its chosen location...and begin the build out. WIth or without floor stand? We'll be looking for those inaugural skierg meters!
Hoarfrost. What a good word. You never know what will greet you as you beam up the garage door, and I have learned to snap the lead onto Kai before beaming. For all her eager anticipation of "what could be out there", she is stealth surveyor before she bounds towards newspaper retrieval...unless a bunny is RIGHT THERE. Beam up today revealed rather dense fog, something new. So new that distraction was in full gear as she peered into the misty stuff. Daylight reveals that we also have hoarfrost (and that seems unusual given the foggy conditions). Still winter. This has been a weather conditions report from the Rocky Mountains.

Thanks, @Warnie and Kona2. It was really exciting. Then I ended up receiving a huge box and a smaller one for the floor stand after which excitement kinda subsided
. Thus began the assembly journey!
It's not that hard actually but as per Warnie's advice make sure to assemble both SkiErg and the floor stand in the same room. Also first assemble SkiErg otherwise it's harder to attach the arms while it's standing up. Anyway, after learning those lessons I put it to a quick 1K test run to see it in action. It works great. I think I will enjoy it. I like the range of movement. Feels like it's going to be a great complement to rower. But time will tell of course.
I'm all set for March now. Let the madness begin!

Friday....
March will be wondrous. Every Lunie will be working hard to stay alive for the 25 days of erging at 5K or 10K levels required to complete the March Mudness Challenge....collecting their pots o'gold and shamrocks. Then, on March 15th, we'll enter the TWO AT ONCE Challenge scenario as the team based World Erg Challenge starts up. Whether you erg by rower, skierg or bike erg (or some mixture of these), you will be focused on March. Get ready to get your Irish on as Mudness Madness and the World Erg Challenges unfold...right before our very eyes and ergs. Hahaha. May good drama and good karma be with us!

Hi all,
I'm wondering do you guys rank your results? Because I ranked my best results so far and apparently they suck! So just curious if actual athletes are using these tools and ranking their results. If that's the case then I wouldn't mind. In fact it would be nice to see my results compared to pro/semi-pro people (I know not all of them can be but even some of them should be a good indicator).
But... if it's just regular people with casual exercise results then that would mean I have a looooong way to go with my performance.
So what do you think in general about ranked workouts?

I have to admit it was one of the reasons i bought my concept equipment in the first place but as I am short (compared to most rowers and cyclists) there's no way I can really compete. I think rankings - to me at least - is all about self improvement. It's great to see it improve but I wouldn't get hung up over it. I'm not sure if pros use it, a lot of them especially rowers don't tend to post their results or talk about them anywhere! I know a guy in the Olympic squad who hates talking about his times!
I've just looked and noticed I've not done a ranked time for ages!! When I cycle I tend to hook it up to Zwift and Strava so most of my effort goes there. As far as the SkiErg goes - no chance! I've only just done 50k on that so far lol!!

Ouch! Then it means I need to up my game. But I'm not sure there's too much room for improvement as I'm also a vertically-challenged individual
I guess a healthy approach would be comparing my current stats with my own history only to view any progress. Otherwise it's easy to get depressed!

One of my sons was a competitive swimmer. From the time he was small, his coaches always emphasized “personal best.” As someone who is short and about to turn 77, I have no other choice—that is, to the extent I even think about all these numbers. The pace and distance are there to see if you want. Why hypernumerate? After all, we do all this work to relieve stress, not enhance it.

Wanted to add my thoughts (opinions) to the helpful ones put forth by Warnie.
Ranking results is something that many of us probably started out doing, then gasped in dismay when seeing our ranking percentile for the specific piece ranked. Obviously if no one put their ranking numbers out there, there wouldn't be a comparison....but it's safe to recognize that in most cases there is always someone better or worse in their rankings than you. I think the times ranked are generally posted by "regular" ergers. Warnie, and a few others, list their best times for various distances in chart form by their signatures....I can't find how to do this, but remember reading about it.
Where I was going with this is that it's good to give yourself a line in the sand about where you are starting by ranking your results. It's probably safe to say that many don't put any ranking times up there for all to see until they feel like they are "respectable" times. I kind of like the "this is where I am" times. It matches your avatar name.
The other thing I wanted to point out is what is repeated on Concept2's erg pages for indoor rower, bike erg and skierg: resist the temptation to do too much too soon. Take a look at the amount of time that is recommended for first workouts on the skierg (and there are similar first workout pages on the bike erg and indoor rower).

Whooooooosh!!! That's the sound of you and your erg flying through yet ANOTHER month!!
Here we go!
The Details
Choose from two levels of participation:
The Basic Challenge: Row, ski or ride 5000 meters each day for 25 days or more in March.
The Advanced Challenge: Row, ski or ride 10,000 meters each day for 25 days or more in March.
Note: BikeErg meters are counted as half when applied to the challenge.
This is an individual challenge. You do not need to belong to a team to participate.
Meters must be entered online in your online logbook.
Indoor rower, SkiErg and BikeErg meters only (no on water/on snow meters please). You can combine meters from each machine to reach the daily total of 5000 or 10,000 meters. Which reminds me...have you seen the ergathalon category?!
Hooboy! 9 Lunies out of the March gates already - and six of them have earned the first pots-of-gold!
