Today is international Rabbit day. So a bunny trail would be appropriate

Image Another episode....sort of.

Bunny trails of the mind happen when they happen...but sometimes prompting can work. I'm a life member of Adventure Cycling - and thoroughly enjoy the stories and gear reviews that they publish both online and in their magazine. As chance would have it, yesterday's mail brought the Oct/Nov edition to my mailbox. There's a feature at the end of the magazine called Open Road Gallery that chronicles photos and mini-stories of the riders who visit the Missoula-based Adventure Cycling headquarters. This month's photo belongs to a touring veterinarian named Mike McGhee. He's playing guitar and harmonica - and I wondered (this is the bunny trail part) just how he carried that small guitar on the recumbent. So I googled images for this, and found that he has a great blog that is part of the crazyguyonabike.com series. Here's the link for some great photos and stories of his journey around the perimeter of the US (265 days or so thus far). https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/?o= ... 8866&v=1fV And, part of that blog shows exactly how he loads that bike. The blog refers to him as The Singing Cyclist.

Mike's gear reviews should appeal to you, David A, (and others). It reminds me a bit of the gear reviews DuluthMoose used to provide. Most of us were never going to go canoe/kayak camping, but we always wanted to know what camping equipment (the stove reviews were memorable) he was using and some bits about the recipes. Now I have to check out the Lezyne Micro Floor Drive High Volume Pumps...gear envy strikes again.

This might be a little random, but does anyone on the team happen to have the old links for the cafe press store for either this years summer solstice challenge merch or last years skeleton crew challenge merch?

You could contact Cafe Press. They seem to be a very user-friendly customer pleasing company, and doubtless have all the graphics stored on a cloud system.

I've had good luck contacting Concept2 (either KC or Dena H) in the past to get graphics - and would bet that they would be able to connect you up to Cafe Press now as well.

Oh happy day! The temperatures are starting to fall below the 50 F mark....and that means that those cold blooded mosquitoes are gonna die! They have terrorized mightily in the last few weeks.

ImageImage Early AM riding out of Brush! CO

Back discussing the bike saddle again - bike erg or otherwise. While there is a company that is touting a free fit kit where you basically receive a piece of soft ridged cardboard, place same on a low table and then sit down to see where the imprints of your sit bones fall....measure between the two centers, and find out what width seat you need....there is something that is simpler and you have all the stuff at home already. Probably. I think some of you will try this just because it is a goofy thing.

Take a piece of aluminum foil. Find a carpeted stair if you have one, sit down and lift your feet. When you stand up, there are clear indentations of where your sit bones push. Measure between the two centers. 13 cm or less and you're a narrow, 13-15 and looks medium, and beyond that, it's wide. This is not indicative of your overall booty size btw. :D If you ride with a more upright position on the bike erg, you might want a wider seat also. Guys aren't always in the narrow range, and women aren't always in the wide sit bone spacing range. This bike seat thing is more complex than one might have thought.

For touring road biking (as opposed to stationary erging), had to laugh when I found a seatpost called the Thudbuster. I could have used a suspension seatpost on some of the roads I was just on. Body Float makes a suspension seatpost that looks better but hooboy, save your money up. Combine that with the right saddle, and it might be much happier trails. Given that it is likely that more low volume traffic roads are better for touring, I think I am going to give the bike steed an upgrade or two. Just my nickel's worth.

Seats, Run a Brooks B67 for upright it has springs. Brooks flyer for touring Its actually a B17 with springs or a Brooks Imperial flyer. I have tried seat post would not recommend it . The more comfort leads to less power to ground. Stand up when the road gets rough your legs are the best shocks. Just my 6 cents :)

K2 called it--Le Trampoline Championsheeps. It was a grand two weeks in France. Unfortunately, I caught a nasty cold and need to take it easy for a day or two. But I haven't forgotten that I signed on for the FTC and haven't rowed a single meter yet.
