Can't tell you what my plan is Carla as I don'y have one apart from keeping my average pace below 2.09. I will just wing it again.
So that's your plan, and that is fine!

Try posting this where you can see it when you row:
2:08 42:40 beats Graham Fisher and almost catches John Stock
2:08.5 42:50 beats Graham Fisher
2:09.0 43:00 ties Claudia Vicars

If you manage 2:08, your boat's average will go down by about 5 seconds--only 3 seconds behind the Forum Flyers right in front of you.

Go Taffs! And can't some MHWT jump in Helen's boat?

Hey Dwayne & Paul B--you pulled Taff 1 into the medals! Yahoo!!!

I'll give another try tomorrow. The day after my last one I was completely drained and exhausted--just could hardly stay awake or walk straight--so the tank might have been emptied more than I thought. It seemed odd that I was so debilitated the day after--not sore, just completely without energy.

I must admit I like the PM3 display that shows average pace, current pace and estimated time to finish. I use the esimate time to finish for my 10K's and I do as Carla writes by knowing the time I need to beat, usually the next person on the ladder.

Go for it MrsT

Can't decide whether to row before breakfast and possibly not have enough energy or leave till later on. Was trying to rush it today as had to take Kids to see "yours mine ours" at the cinema- oh I just love the school holidays.

Not sure how you write down your splits whilst rowing 10k. Not good at rowing one handed. If I suss it out I will be able to drink water as well

Helen

I can never post fast times in the morning. I always look for my fast sessions early evening when fully hydrated and fuelled with carbs during the day. Also I usually take down an energy drink about 20 mins before starting a PB session.

Sadly I am not an evening person. Wedging my head up on the sofa is about all I can manage. Early evening is taken up by sorting kids out.I am more of a mid morning person. I have got up early this morning so I can digest my breakfast fully and I will have another go later.

Paul
Brill stuff on your improved time(and Dwayne) :D :D :D
Phil came home briefly late last night from Guernsey noted your time, thought it was a bit out of reach currently and then flew off to Belgium early this morning!
I expect he will not be able to resist the challenge at the weekend though.

Not sure what you mean exactly - I thought you just wanted a record of your splits at the end of the row.

I use the average pace over the whole row to keep me to my target, then I use the recorded splits afterwards to see how well I paced it.

Maybe I don't know what I mean either. All this exersise is affecting my brain cells. Phil understands though and agrees with me! Maybe it is time to upgrade we already have friends vying to buy our old machine.

Helen - great stuff well done.

I reckon sub 42.30 is well within your reach. Your splits show you went off well , struggled in the middle but had the mental strength to finish hard.

I think to go sub 42.30, you should go out a bit slower and slowly increase the pace through the 10k. I think there is nothing worse than struggling with mental demons and having to slow in the middle and then have to try and pick the pace up again at the end.

Your 42.49 is an average of 2.08.5 - to go sub 42.30 you need to average 2.07.5 (there is a pace calculator on the uk site - main menu - training - pace calculator, which lets you put distance and time in and it will calculate the average).

I would attempt sub 42.30 something like this:

1st 2k - pull 2.08's and 2.09's
3k-5k - pull 2.07's and 2.08's
6k-8k - pull more 2.07's than 2.08's
9k-10k - Whatever you've got left - 2.06's and 2.07's would be nice.

I think it's recognised by most that consistent pacing is far better than fly and die. Good luck

Dwayne

I've a bit in the tank and hope to be sub 35.30 before the end of the month. I would imagine one legged Phil has a bit left too  - I think he'll go sub 36mins as long as work allows.

That's GREAT! So you were able to do better than just break 43:00!! Great job sticking to it.

I agree with Paul B on a good strategy for next time. It is hard when you go off too fast. It feels much better to start conservatively, speed up throughout the piece, and finish with a sprint.

Can't wait to see your results next time!
