Has anyone got one and tried out the new software?
sounds a little interesting being able to track both indoor and otw rowing activities - not sure about the comploete spectrum of data collected (stroke, speed, distance travelled etc.)
anyone able to supply a review ?

Re: Garmin Fenix 3 (indoor/outdoor rowing support)
I have a Garmin Fenix 3 HR. The indoor rowing program records average strokes, maximum strokes, total strokes, average heart rate, maximum heart rate, average temperature, and maximum temperature. It does not calculate or record distance. This has to be manually entered. Once the distance is entered, the pace per 500 meters will be calculated.
Re: Garmin Fenix 3 (indoor/outdoor rowing support)
I purchased a Garmin Fenix HR a few weeks ago and really like it. There are a ton of cool features. The HR works very well for your resting HR, but it wasn't even close while working out. So, I added the Garmin HRM Run chest strap and it works great now. The indoor rowing data is ok (already mentioned above), and if that's all you were going to use it for, I'd probably take a pass. The data provided by RowPro is much better (although I have found the watch to be accurate with stroke count and that surprised me a little).
I took it out OTW with my drift boat fly fishing (a drift boat is ONLY like a scull in that you use two oars), and it tracked a bunch of data for me. Garmin Connect provides a map of your route which was pretty cool.
With the GPS, you can also mark waypoints for later reference which was important to me. I'm going to check out the swim features on Saturday, but that looks pretty neat too.

the main use would be OTW (gps; how far, and stroke count/pace). I have a garmin HR vivosmart - but its scratched a bit and a little unreadable - an upgrade might be on the books - thanks.

If you have a tablet you can download the image resizer app, it's very small and you can adjust the size of your picture in about 2 seconds and save a second file. Hope this helps.paul45 wrote:Joe L wrote:I purchased a Garmin Fenix HR a few weeks ago and really like it. There are a ton of cool features. Hi Joe, we have something in common, fishing
I did shore (been in a team or two in my time many years ago), boat with a club
and on the river for salmon/wild brown trout, here is a pick of one
of many rainbow trout doubles (PB @ 18lb 8oz) on a dry fly grey duster size 22).
Many picks of shore caught fish, wild brown trout, salmon/grilse but it is a rowing
forum so i don't think the moderators would mind 1 pic.
Can't upload pic it's say's to big, it is a big fish, ah well no worries.
Tight lines Joe.

How accurate would you say that the calories burned section of the watch is? If the hr is off does that mean calories burned is way off too?

Re: Garmin Fenix 3 (indoor/outdoor rowing support)
It was way off when compared to the data in RowPro. I'm not sure but I'm guessing that it's because the HR was off too. When paired with the Garmin HR M Run chest strap, I have had no issues though.Kxthor911 wrote:How accurate would you say that the calories burned section of the watch is?
