Started Rowing 5th August 2005 and weighed 92kg (203 lb)
I have been slacking for the last couple of months......too cold in my garage where the ergo is kept
I am now getting back into the groove, and I weigh 80kg (176 lb)
Total loss to date 27 lb
Very little diet change, just cut out the odd crisps etc and just exercise.

30 lbs and counting!
Been away from the post for a little while. But still rowing away....
I started at 258 lbs back in mid Sept 2005. As of last week, I have lost 30 lbs! Clipping along at a 1 to 1.5 lbs per week. I've lost 3" around the waist.
I have modified my diet, watching calories and diet by using www.sparkpeople.com. Nothing special about the diet - but i am much more selective about what I eat - a lot more vegetables and fruits - more bulk with fewer calories.
I row 3 times a week, average about 12K per row, and run twice a week about 6 mis per run. On Saurday I pulled a 2K row in 7:38.1. Of course I didn't start out that way, and it's been a lot of hard work, but the results are measurable!
My goal weight is 185 (college weight) by 1/1/07.

Re: 30 lbs and counting!
More fruits and vegetables -- more bulk with fewer calories. That's what is working for me too. Until I changed my nutrition plan all my erging wasn't doing much -- I just could eat more without gaining weight.gwjones wrote:Been away from the post for a little while. But still rowing away....

Eating more fruits and especially more vegetables also helps on the WW plan.
Mike
Mike I am on the flex plan .... I work shifts and it seems to help and it also lets me have the odd glass of wine when I am not working .......Steelhead wrote:Carole wrote:now 10lbs lost ................ since 6th March ....
Good to hear that the WW's program with your erging is working. Excellent results. Congratulations.
Are you using the flex-plan or the core plan?

Goals
I've been rowing since September 2004.
Was always athletic and extremely overweight my whole life. Up until July 2005. Kinda sucked. No, really sucked actually.
But yeah, I decided in July that I was going to cut out every single kind of junk food and really increase my physical activity levels. Worked like a charm. I dropped about 35 pounds between July and September, which probably wasn't a healthy amount of weight to lose, but it's history. That brought me from 200 pounds to 165 pounds. (At 5'5", you can see how 200 pounds would be VERY unhealthy.)
Over the past 7 months, I've been gradually losing weight and lost another 22 pounds.
I am proud to be able to say that I'm only 4 pounds off of my next goal weight, which is to be 138 for the beginning of June. Canadian Schoolboy Championships are the first weekend in June, and I am going to be rowing lightweight.
If I had any tips for anybody, I would just say that diet alone isn't enough. Track your intake and your calories burned on a site like http://www.calorie-count.com Doing this will enable you to see what you need to work on. Sometimes it's just that additional 2 kilometers a day that will make a difference between a weight loss or gain.
Currently looking forward to spring arriving as I intensely dislike indoor training. Looking forward to rowing in my single once more.
Also, I don't know if you guys notice but, eating habits become SO much better in the summer, and you're also much more physically active.
Take care guys. [/size]

Re: Goals
Thank you. I cut out all the junk food on February 2nd, and in two months have lost over 20 pounds. It is nutrient rich whole food plus exercise.henleygirl06 wrote:I've been rowing since September 2004.

You are an inspiration!
Mike
Wow, Thanks. I never considered myself to be an inspiration to others. I suppose I am though, in a way.
Congratulations on the 20 pounds in two months. Are you losing weight so that you can make your weight category, or just so you can row faster in general?
Re: Goals
I want to become a light weight again and row faster, but my primary objective is to become healthier overall.henleygirl06 wrote:Wow, Thanks. I never considered myself to be an inspiration to others. I suppose I am though, in a way.

Great going henleygirl06! I am finally under 200 weighing in at 198 this AM after nearly a month stuck at 201. Steelhead (Mike), thanks so much for recommending the China Study. Can't keep to it all the time, as my husband is a chef by trade and wine/food are big in my family. But, I am doing better!

Today, I grabbed an older pair of slacks that used to not fit me and holy cow they not only fit they were loose, and then when I put on my blazer it was roomy. So the China Study is working.

If you have time, or while rowing, you may want to watch/listen to these talks on nutrition (informative and provocative):
