LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Seems as though I have pulled my back yet again. I have had issues for over a year with certain trigger points where out of no where cause my whole upper back to seize. I've been having massage therapy, acupuncture, cupping and chiropractic care but something has tweaked it today. It hurt a little before my row this morning. I was able to push through but now I fear I have made itworse. It's 3weeks before my first 2k. I might just be out of the running and I'm devastated. .

AWESOME tribute! Also congratulations on the lifetime meters. Great day for all the achievements...kgallagher wrote:The week leading up to December 14th, 2014, I had been planning on doing a 1/2 marathon that day with a cool down after to balance out to 26,000 meters; one thousand meters for each of 26 victims at Sandy Hook School in Newtown, CT. That day was the two year anniversary of the sad event. (If anyone doesn't know, after killing his mother in her home, a young man came into the school with a gun and killed 6 teachers and 20 kindergarten and first grade students.) Newtown is within ten miles of Oxford where I do my real life rowing. It is about 25 miles from my home. Sadly, that Friday- the anniversary, I tweaked my back. I was unable to row that weekend, so was not able to put in my memorial erg workout.
It has bothered me that I never paid tribute in my own way. My back isn't perfect, but felt well enough to give it a go. I wasn't going for a personal best and it might have been a personal worst, but I did it. I did a 1/2 marathon plus a 4,903m cool down. Today was a good day to do that. In addition to honoring the memories of the teachers and children who are now angels, I earned my canoe and crossed the 7 million meter lifetime mark (at least based on what I've entered into Concept2. ). I erged many years prior to uploading my data.
Thanks for all the support and inspiration this team gives me.

Very sorry to hear about this setback, April. Like Ed said, it's always important that your health comes first. But I know you know that.April27 wrote:Seems as though I have pulled my back yet again. Have you been to a doctor also? Based on my life experiences, I'm always in favor of that direction, you know, getting an X-Ray and all. Do you have any suspicion that whatever started a little over a year ago is connected to an increase in rowing? If so, maybe a slight form correction might be indicated. I know I've seen people in forums talk about videotaping themselves rowing and getting suggestions - don't know anything about it personally.

Also wishing you a speedy recovery! All is not lost even if you can't do the 2K this year. It might be a great opportunity to go and watch - get a sense for what you'll be facing in the next year. Heal well!

Day 11 in the Bubble Universe....Gooooooo Teams!!!
One-third of the way into the Challenge (and the upside is clearly that TWO-THIRDS of the Challenge still remains!), finds that we continue to have some biggie meters being generated throughout the Concept2 Universe. And, just as a note, I try for capturing the numbers first thing in the day, but am not always successful in doing that - or in getting them posted promptly after they've been entered into the spreadsheet. Today is one of those days, so if you have special meter call outs, please do send me a PM so I can capture the event or number sequence that you wanted to highlight. Lots going on in the Luniverse, and similarly in each of our lives! Stepping away from the numbers pages for even five minutes, or trying to multitask, usually results in an oops here or there.

Funny Story About New C2
Funny Story About New C2
Ok, so, for those that don’t know me I am blind. That’s important to this story.
Now then I just got a new C2. Ok, the GF got a new C2. I’ve put these together before so I know about that. Not a problem. I’m by myself doing this little simple task. I get the legs on wrong and have to switch them around as usual. Ok, that done. I finish by hooking up the PM, with a flourish I might add. What, you weren’t there, don’t doubt me.
I move the beautiful C2to where we agreed to set it up by a window with a long heavy curtain. Good. I finish with a pat on my own back. Flexible arm and shoulder.
The GF comes home and makes appropriate mouth noises praising the king for his incredible efforts. The dragon dead at my feet. Alright, now comes the point.
GF is down the hall and I climb aboard. I start off kind of slow and work my way up. Drag factor feels normal and then drops right off. I mean there was no drag at all. I stop. I get off the seat that has barely been warmed yet and feel around. Everything feels fine. Is this thing defective? Back on I get. Start up. Once I am picking up some speed the drag falls right off again. Again I hop off. Nothing amiss. Me mentally challenged by a mere machine? I can’t be beat. Um, with tail between my legs I slither down the hall and ask GF to come lend me her eyes. I need proof before I contact C2 or they’ll think I’m nuts. I explain drag factor and told her where to find it on the PM.
I hop back on with great determination to resolve this issue. I start pulling. Once up to speed the drag drops off and I said there! What’s the drag. It was something silly like 15. Then she laughed.
And now for the rest of the story.
When I got up to speed the fan sucked the curtain against it thereby choking the poor flywheel resulting in there being no drag. Of course by the time I got off and felt around with my perfectly good ten eyes that can only see arms distance the curtain was innocently hanging as it should be. Hahaha. I wonder if she wasn’t there how long it would have taken me to figure that one out. Oh man, I might have sent it back for repairs and on and on. So the C2 remained where he was but turned around with his left side facing the curtain and we all lived sweatily ever after.

Hahaha! That's a great story, Thor. Besides, there are a lot of us who might technically be able to see yet not be able to figure out the issues. We do just what you did - call for support and laugh about it. Good stuff.

Hence the expression, "It's curtains for you." Great story, Thor.
That's the upside??? You're killing me. I just finished making up for a missed day. Oh man, what a grind. It's still too soon for me to know whether I will actually make it to bathtub status - I'm not giving up, but I think I'm done trying to erase a missed day.Kona2 wrote:One-third of the way into the Challenge (and the upside is clearly that TWO-THIRDS of the Challenge still remains!)

Oh big grown. haha. Yes these guys are making it tough for me to hold my spot too. The good side is I am racking up more meters then I should be able given I only started up again in November. I hope the old body keeps on keeping on. Hmm, I will have to write that in a country song. Keeps on keeping on. Hmm.danwho wrote:Hence the expression, "It's curtains for you." Great story, Thor.

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I agree with Kona2. Great story. I recently put together three new ergs at my boathouse and even with 2 good eyes, it wasn't a simple task. I'm impressed with your ease at tackling that project. What should you title the story, "Attack of the killer curtain". Probably not, that would give away the ending. How about "What a drag?"Kona2 wrote:Hahaha! That's a great story, Thor. On a different note - thanks Kona2 for acknowleding my 26k on its own.
April - sorry to hear about your back. I can sympathize with you. Your back is way more important than your 2k race. There will always be more 2ks that you can do. You only have one back. Do what you need to do in order to rest and recover. Regarding technique, you've mentioned having a former coach, so your form may be okay, but just in case... Your quads are the strongest muscle. Focus on driving your legs down and holding your body angle forward. As your hands pass your knees start to open up from the hips. (A former coach once used the phrasing "pivot at the hips" and that helped me a lot with my form). Finish with the arms, but don't yank the handle in - keep it a steady continuous effort. Hope this helps. Feel better.

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
So confession time. I’ve had access to a rower since 2005 or 2006. Some of you know that when I train and that hasn’t been consistent in years, I lift weights. I used the rower just to warm up a bit. So other than the holiday challenge in 2009, I haven’t really rowed any noticeable meters. I will get my first lifetime million during the team challenge. As of now I have 911,533m. This season I've done 389,227m. Most of that since Nov 27. so now I only need around 90K. should be done in a week. so on one hand it is a little embarrassing and on the other hand I am glad to put the first one behind me soon. Now then how do I catch up with Richard and Ed’s millions. Hmm. Um, no!!! haha
Thank you all.
Love Storman Thor-man.

I've only been with this team for a short time myself. I love these folks. So if you are looking for a supportive place to put your meters, this is a good place. If you've read some of the posts you know what I mean. I will leave it to the great K2 and others who have been here longer to say more.
Of course if you are rowing more meters than I ... oh forget it. Kidding! haha
Welcome.
