AWESOME!

Kona - I have now played in 128 degrees, -10 degrees and while snowing couldn't play on greens, flag poles put next to it. All about the fun with friends!! Got selected for the camera crew for the Qatar open in January... Can't wait.

Hope you enjoyed the time on the course!

Best,

... then there are those of us who get started a few days late, after the Thanksgiving guests have left, and the mountains of leftover food have been dealt with. But, those Lunatic reindeer are great incentives to keep us motivated throughout the holidays. I've been making chai tea mix, for Christmas presents. Maybe my reindeer should be Chai Wallah!

Peter to Reindeer Central....

I would like to reserve "Reindeer" Amerigo. As in the Netherlands we are believers of the original Saint, i would like to name my Reindeer after the horse of Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas).

I love the randomness of the luck of the draw, so no reservations here. I've been battling with some kind of muscle rebellion on one side of my lower back for a week now. It has really put a cramp on building back up the meter tolerance. I'm not sure if it is due to rowing technique or wood stacking. :(

Maybe it is due to the combo of both activities? And random luck of the draw it will be....

She's A Meter Multi-Millionaire !! Again !

Whoop, whoop and hooyah! Like many of our teammates, bg likes to change up her workout routines and has been putting in some serious running miles. This hasn't slowed her forward progress too much (she was at 3.75 MM on this date last year), and has added some new elements for her (and that's what it's all about). Congratulations, bg, on achieving a THREE million meter 2015 season. We wish you MANY, many more! Btw, what's your running mileage total for the year...or do you even keep track of it?!

One of the cool things about being able to look back through the data years, is to see how individual people have changed it up. bg has consistently been at about 3 MM or more since 2010 season (or 2009). There was a little blip in 2011 or so where she had some health issues, but she has conquered those, too! Well done....and get back your ability to talk on the forum!

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 11.25.14

Post by Kona2 » November 26th, 2014, 1:05 pm

Here we are on the day before the Holiday Challenge, the day before the US holiday of Thanksgiving....let's make it a fabulous challenge and help Concept2 get to its $30K donation goal! Back in earlier times, there were only 18 or 19,000 people registered with logbooks at the start of the Challenge, and we would all watch as the numbers ballooned up over 20K participants. Today, we have almost 28,000 participants ...I wonder what the number will go to by end of Challenge? How many new people will get hooked on an exercise that we all enjoy?

Image But first...a bunny trail (most of these are totally unrelated to rowing and/or ski-erging, so skip this section if you wish). Or, more appropriately, a cat tale. And, not just any cat...it's Jesse, the Marauder, King of Carbohydrates...

Some of you will remember Jesse as the Bread Bandit. His special preference is French Rolls. No bread, wrapped or not, can be left out of the pantry...or we come home to find it unceremoniously strewn (with select segments chewed out) throughout the living room, and perhaps down the stairs. "Oh, there's a sandwich on the stairs." This carbo loving beast ate the crust off a cooling cherry pie that was destined for a silent auction. Yeast breads are also a favorite as they need time to rise...typically done in the kit-chen area (for some reason, the forum denotes the word kit-chen as spam) for most families. No longer here. Is it new? Have I had a taste of this before? seems to be his mantra, as he leaves multiple plastic bags with chew holes through them. Tupperware seems to elude him, although he was discovered in a compromising position with a cake saver...trying to pry off the lid with his toes. Time passes, and the cat that was 12 pounds grew. At 15 pounds, the vet said "he's athletic and has a good muscle base." At 16 pounds, she said.."he's fat." And so began the battle of the Kitty Diet. The first few days, I felt bad for him. He would approach me at feeding time, and I could hear his stomach growling. Still, he seemed to be adjusting well enough to the lesser amount of food. He stopped pestering me an hour before it was "time" for food. And, now I know why.

Image Many of us who are pet owners buy some fun things for the pets to enjoy - especially for the holidays. I picked up some chew bones (wrapped in shrinkwrap for keeping)...the kind that used to belong to some animal or another...for the Goldens. These were stashed in a closet where all sorts of presents get stashed. I was looking for something in that closet yesterday evening, and what do I find...ALL the bones have been taken out of the plastic and Jesse has enjoyed them thoroughly. He has lost some poundage...but I'm not even thinking of leaving anything related to Thanksgiving out...not even for a few minutes. Besides, there are a lot of pet "poisonings" that happen over the Holidays...and I'm not talking about Aunt Martha's specialty dish that gets all of us...so do be extra vigilant....especially if you have a cat that's on a calorie restricted diet....

Are you speaking, Sir? What’s the matter, cat got your crust?

I don’t know. This box isn’t talking.

Happy Thanksgiving....and GO GET THOSE REINDEER, Lunies!

I'll be busy with family things until Sunday, so doubt that I will get too many chances to chase down the numbers. I will try to catch the big milestones...but do feel free to congratulate each other! It's a TEAM forum!

Whoop, whoop and pardon those turkeys (the gobbling kind) for those that are vegans!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Lunatic friends!

I'm back! For those who don't know me, I am an on the water rower. I row with the New Haven Rowing Club out of Oxford, CT. I've been rowing for 27 years. I started my freshman year of college and haven't stopped. (I did take a brief break in 2000 to have a child, but that's about it for time off.) Our on the water season is basically March-November give or take a little depending on the New England weather. When on the water my erging is minimal.

This fall I only raced in two races, both in women masters 8+ events. My boat was second at the Head of the Housatonic to a boat filled with Yale Alumni including former Olympians and National Team Rowers. In that case, second place wasn't too bad. Luckily that boat didn't race at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philly. We won that race.

It is now too chilly and too dark for me to row. (I usually hit the water at 5:30 am.) So, I am back on the erg. When I don't erg, I don't tend to follow the Forum too much. Sorry if I missed any great announcements or key celebrations. I know you Loonies work hard on the erg all year. Congrats to anyone who achieved something big while I was off-line/on the water.

Karyn
