Hi count me in.
I am new to this forum. My first posting was this weekend in the women's forum.
This sounds like what I need. I am trying to get back to rowing after a heart attack and 6 stents. All but one stent was put in at a different times. The last couple of years it has been a cycle of feeling better, getting back to rowing only to go back to the hospital for another stent.
The good news is that my bad artery is completely stented (full metal jacket) and the other arteries are like freeways.
Similar to someone else in this thread, I am getting a little older (50) and would like to work on getting back into shape. Before my health went south on me, I was at the gym weekdays rowing about 45 minutes a day. Now I would be thankful for 15.

Great to have some more women joining this thread. While I didn't have any kind of health crisis that spurred me on to lose weight and start exercising, I just was starting to feel "not good." I feel so much better now!
This weekend I lost one of those last two pounds that I wanted to lose, so I am now sitting at 134 pounds. I also got a PB on 60:00 by 332 metres, so I was happy about that too!!
Keep rowing everyone!

Paula...it must have been really scary to go through all those surgeries. It is great that things are looking clear, and even better that you are sticking with your plans to be healthy.
Great news on your PB, Shannon.
Today I was happy to get my 60 minutes in...no personal best, but considering that I am still building up after a sickness last week, I am pleased that I did it. Tomorrow it will be a strength training session for me. I am really feeling better, and ready to get back to business.

Hey,
I just registered for the nonathlon!!! I still don't get how it measures people against each other--but it looks like another way to keep it fun and interesting. So, thanks for that suggestion!
Paula--how great for you to be on that rower again! My neighbor had open heart surgery and they had her on the c2 for rehab (at age 39). Within a year we were up at Craftsbury camp for a fun weekend of rowing. Her doctors were amazed at her recovery.
I'm getting ready to go on one of those "all-inclusive" vacations. How am I going to eat healthy when there is food, food everywhere? The good news is that there are c2's in the workout room!!!

I have always struggled when there is so much good food to eat all around me. I especially have had to work on the misconception that I needed to eat my money's worth.
I have tried taking small bits of things and focusing on savoring each mouthful. My biggest problem is eating too fast which leads to too much eating. I am working on putting my fork down between bites.
Enjoy the food--in moderation. Perhaps since you know there will be food all the time you won't feel you need to eat it all right now.
I am glad ergs are available. I have started to row so I can eat!
Where is your vacation? How long will you be there?
Susan

Good morning all,
I had a good work out yesterday and feel good today.
Shannon- Congrats.....great that the 2-lbs are gone. Ah, to be a light weight.
Jane - Your neighbor is such an inspiration. When I was in rehab the c2 wasn't a option. When I mentioned that I had a c2, the didn't think it was a good idea to use it. After rehab I have keep trying to get back in the groove. If I can stay healthy maybe I can amaze my doctors.
Vacation........jealous. You have a great opportunity to meet other rowers.
Make it a good one.

Hi all...
Going to Cabo for one week. I really am going to try to be good with all that food/booze around. But, this is going to take a lot of will power!!! I'm making a pact with myself--try to eat slowly, eat one salad per day as a meal, no drinking before 6pm, and limit sweets (this is a vacation after all). If I can get out of Mexico without gaining weight, I'll consider this a victory.
Paula, you can and will amaze your doctors and even yourself!!! Keep up the great work and stay healthy.
Shannon, how are you attacking those last pounds? Are you watching intake, exercise more, or both? Those pounds are the hardest to lose.

I am down to 133.5, as of this morning! I am very careful about what I eat and I exercise regularly. I row around 10K/day. I really think it is important to focus on both the exercise and the food intake. I couldn't lose weight with just one or the other.jane wrote:Hi all...

Hello All!
How was everyone's day? Mine was great. Yesterday I lifted weights, and am sore today. I like getting that feeling. Today I did an hour of rowing, and was very active otherwise.
I must admit, these past couple of days, I am really fighting the urge to eat outside of my plan. Does anybody else have days on end where they just want something with empty calories?

I am really happy because I got a 6K PB today! I did it online on RowPro. I am really getting addicted to doing those online workouts. Then a few hours later I did a 60 minute row online too. I ended up doing more than 21.5K today which is a lot more than I usually do, but it was good.
Karen, I don't have a lot of cravings these days, luckily, but it was hard for me when I first started to go without some of the things that were issues for me (crackers, tortilla chips, that kind of thing). Hang in there!

HI Everybody!
Happy Friday. Anybody have any great weekend plans? We are planning on staying home and having a relaxing weekend. I have been enjoying a 60 minute row a couple of times a week. Today that is what I have planned.
I don't know what's up with me...but lately I seem to be having a headache almost every afternoon. I don't use a lot of caffeine. Just ordered new glasses. Hopefully that will do it.

That is a good point about being dehydrated. I have been tracking my fluids, and do not think that is the problem. I am happy to report that I have been headache free for 2-days. Hopefully that is the end of it. I suspect I was on a caffeine roller coaster. While I do not drink caffeinated beverages, I had been taking Excedrin for the headache, which has caffeine. Once I started taking motrin, it seems to have disappeared. I have noticed that I am very sensitive to caffeine. (makes my eye twitch, gives me withdrawal headaches, etc.)
So how is everyone doing? Everyone has been pretty quiet here. Hope that means that we are all doing great things for our bodies and our minds.
I had a nice weekend, with 2 great workouts, lots of family lovey dovey time, and even a lunch with a good friend to round it out.
