I gave the 100 meteres another blast today.

Got a slightly higher Drag factor due to the moisture in the air on a wet day. (206 from Tuesday went up to 209 today....yes I need to vacuum clean it!)

Moved the footstrechers up a bit to 4 holes showing.

Started with a fast stroke forwards so a faster first stroke as the clock started when the ''bounce back'' of the drive started.

During the row hit a new ''Low Pull'' of 1:17 pace.

Ended up with 16.1 a new PB by 0.4 and equalled the British Record for the 65-69 Lwt Category.

Now I've got to keep going to try and knock off that last pesky 0.1 so I can have the record to myself!
Nice one rod, really good time that is.

I did a 2K at the weekend and set a new PB by 4.7s (which was almost 2 years old). So I'm pleased with that :D

Code: Select all

Time	Meters	Pace	S/M	HR
6:46.5	2,000m	1:41.6	33	169
1:21.4	400m	1:41.7	32	160
1:21.6	800m	1:42.0	32	169
1:21.5	1,200m	1:41.8	33	170
1:21.8	1,600m	1:42.2	33	172
1:20.1	2,000m	1:40.1	37	174
I recorded myself and ergdata: https://youtu.be/Furf7q2NqkA (The video is abridged with 5 strokes taken from each minute).

My target pace was 1:42 which despite the usual doubts during 3rd and 4th splits I managed to maintain. I used my usual tactic of using the rate to control the pace, and rated higher than I ever have before in the last split. Given that the pace of the last split was 1.5s quicker than the average I do wonder if I could have got the first 1600m nearer to 1:41 by rating a touch higher throughout. Any comments on my form would be very welcome, if you have any :)

Great result and you broke 6:50! The row was paced well too with a strong finish. I will review the video when home later.

That's a nice bit off your previous PB, and beat 6:50 - which is great! (Not to beat 6:45 :P )

Watched video - I didn't see any glaring issues, especially when doing a 2K test form usually strays some. We can always get "nit-picky" but no need as it worked and you seemed in a good groove.

Nothing wrong with what you did, but the last split can become a bit more than you're capable of throughout due to the adrenaline rush and pride acting as an analgesic.

Having said that, maybe a higher stroke rate might also be the difference in a few seconds faster, but don't discount the issue of breathing sequence & consequently oxygen debt, if you did rate higher for longer.

Whatever you could have done this is a fantastic result and improvement on your PB

Thanks you. I realise that I'm considering the marginal gains here! I've only quite recently been working on getting the rate up up up to get maximum pace so it's new ground to see what is maintainable beyond one split. Rate up gets more pace from the same amount of push, but you absolutely pay for it in pain.
