any of you all in a non-competitive context using lactate measurement to guide your training?

lactate testing
No, friend of mine suggested getting an Accutrend lactate testing device. I was just interested to find out if anybody who was not a competitive athlete was using one to monitor their own training.

I have heard that some of the serious athletes on the UK forum have been tested. You might check that out.

I had a VO2 max/lactate threshhold test a couple of years ago.
The VO2 max calculator on this site (based on 2k) was almost dead on, when compared to the measurements from a university physiologist.
As for lactate threshhold, it was a touch above 80% (karvonen) max heart rate. That was right about where I thought it was, based on perceived exertion during training.
I don't think there is any point in getting tested once. If you are going to test every couple of months, so you can fine tune training paces, then it would be worthwhile. Otherwise, it's just a lark.
A few years back, there were some threads here about the lactate testing kits you can buy for self testing. (I think Xeno sold them.) As I recall, a poster named dougsurf bought a testing kit and reported some early results. You could search old posts.
