Any new models being released soon?

Post by blop001 » July 14th, 2015, 8:45 am

Hi All,

I am looking to get an Indoor Rower currently leaning to the Model D with the PM5 and i wondered if the model was about to be refresehed?

I can see that the Model C was in production from 1993 - 2003 and the Model D from 2003 - XXXX so I am thinking that there could be a new about to drop....I am one of those people....who would hate to buy something that is going to be superseded in a years time! :)

Many thanks!

The dynamic, model D & model E with the PM5 are the latest and greatest.

Concept 2 don't usually pre-announce new models before general availability. So you are best off with one of those. The PM5 is the newest product for the indoor rower.

My Model D which I purchased in late 2003 works well, is extremely dependable, and is quiet. The only major improvements have been a somewhat easier to use (but no more effective) locking system between the two sections and the PM4 and 5 monitors. Mine has a PM3 which is quite satisfactory for my purposes. The Model E is also an excellent machine but the less expensive Model D should be sufficient for most people.

If you care to wait for a Model F sometime in the future, that's entirely up to you. But I doubt if any new model can be much better than the present Models D and E and the almost 12 year old version of the D I currently own.

There is also the dynamic, which has only been out for about 5 years. It was a major change from all previous models, although it uses the same monitors.

We bought a Model D with the PM5 monitor last December, and have been entirely satisfied with it (I'm closing in on 2 million meters). I couldn't be happier with the results in my back and upper body (legs have always been strong). Concept2 continues to refine the PM5 firmware and fix any bugs. Our experience is that it is reliable and has not caused us any problems. So I'd agree with Sekitori and encourage you to get your own C2 if you're inclined in that direction :P.

I purchased my Model D about 6 weeks ago and had the same worries as I was weighing everything up... Nothing worse than purchasing something only to realise that the newer (and usually better) version is about to be released! This isn't like buying an iPhone though (other smartphones are available), so I think you can breathe easy.

I'm no rowing expert whatsoever, but couldn't be more delighted with the purchase and cannot really envisage what could be done to improve the design, nor PM5... It does and logs just about everything you will ever need.

Hope you enjoy the rower if you go ahead and buy one!

I would recommend the model D for home use.

The D and E are about the same price, but the E's bulkier and has no real advantage over the D. The exception is if you have difficulty getting on and off a low to the ground seat, or are very tall (like, 7 feet tall) and need a longer rail, which I think is only a possibility with the E. The E also looks nicer on a gym floor, but again, that's not a benefit for a home user. It also has a slightly more solid construction, but if you manage to break a D you're doing something seriously wrong. For the majority of home users, the D's the best option.

You should not worry about a future Model F. You can just sell your modell D if a Modell F should be released :-) I have seen used modell C been sold 3/4 for the cost of a new modell D.

Thank you all for the replies...

Despite multiple urges not to splash out on a Concept 2 I have in the end just pulled the trigger and ordered a brand new Model D* with PM5! :D Although for some reason i did almost end up on a tangent with the WaterRower...largely as it stood up easily!

I was amazed at the resell value or rather how much people were asking for used ones, seriously does an ex gym stock Concept D with a PM3 really worth 600 quid?

In the end the warranty etc seemed to make sense for me to buy new. Especially with a 0% period on my card...

*I think this is the one I have used in the gym as I do not remember being chair height.

Anyone know where I can get one of those Fancy CeeBreeze thingies? B)

Get your C-Breeze from http://www.ps-sport.net

I'd never spend more that £450 on an ex-gym model D because it's going to need a new chain, new cords and a good clean out before it's usuable. It may need a new handle, rail top, seat rollers.

The C's go for $300-400 in my area, the D's $500-600. And they're gone instantly. I usually tell people to just pony up for a new one. It will last forever and hold it's value.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy a used one.

First off, if you buy a new one, it's delivered to your door, has a 99.9% chance of working without any issues (and on the off chance you get a defective unit the company will take care of it), and you can just buy it, no hassle of looking for it.

If you get a used one, you're likely going to have to go pick it up after spending hours looking for one, and if there's any issues, the parts aren't expensive, but it could take you hours to take the machine apart and put it back together.

If you're serious about using it, getting a new model D is well worth it. If you're the type to use exercise equipment once or twice and then use it as a clothes hanger, then buy something cheaper.

If its in the budget get the new model D. I looked and looked. Used ones are hard to find because they do not last long for sale and the new ones are great. No problems and quick delivery.
