What damper setting?

Hi I am new to rowing and I am not sure what damper setting I should be using. I just started on the 18th of this month. I have used 5 as a setting for my first few rows and now I have been setting it to 10. Any thought or ideas on what I should be doing? I row 3 to 4 times a week, 2k or 5k.

Hi Bill.

The damper settings vary from machine to machine depending on how clean it is and how much air is alowed into the fan.

A damper setting of 4 can be as high as a setting of 10 on a different machine.

Instead of that, display the Drag factor on the monitor and see what a damper setting of 10 is worth.

It's a very individual thing but on average I think lots of us row on a drag setting between 120 to 150.

130 on my machine is a damper setting of 5.

Heres a bit more info from Citroen on the matter

If PM2 press [REST] & [OK] together. (You need to remove your HR belt if you have a HR interface.)
If PM3/PM4 choose more options then display drag factor from the main menu.

Row a few strokes to get the flywheel spinning and the monitor will display the drag factor number.

Then adjust the damper lever so that you're in this range:

Male hwt – 125-140
Female hwt – 120-135
Male lwt – 120-135
Female lwt – 115-125

Drag factor depends on a number of things, the primary one being how badly your machine is clogged with dust bunnies. Altitude can have a significant effect.
