My Son Has Started to Use My C2......
My Son Has Started to Use My C2......
and I couldn't be happier!
He'll be 13 yo next month. Never before has he been interested in any kind of athletic or physical activity.
Today was his 3rd workout on the erg. He only did 3700m in 28 minutes, but still, I am proud of him.
I just need to find a way to be supportive and encouraging without being pushy.
Had to tell someone, thanks for reading.

I was listening to a podcast about training kids in athletics. The speaker, a trainer who coaches high school kids, encourages parents to just let kids "play." Basically like you say, support without forcing. I think your attitude is great and I'm sure if you just support his interests, whether it be erging or other activities, you can't go too far wrong!
Best regards,
Bryan

I was just reading in C2's Rowing Logbook that they have Kid's Distance Clubs. The info at concept2.com click on Motivation and Community.
I'm hoping my brother and his youngest boys will dust off his Model C and join in.

Tell him how well he has done. Then tell him again.
Then help him improve his technique; not by saying that he's doing this or that wrongly, but by saying "you're doing that well, but you would find it much better to do it this way".
Then lavish praise on the improvements.
My 12 yr old loves rowing; I keep telling him that he's growing into a big, strong lad and that I feel sure that he'll represent GB in the Olympics one day. Hey, like every dad I hope he does.

Nah, kis doesn't have a competitive bone in his body. I wish he was though.singletrackmike wrote:That is great! I can't help but wonder if part of his motivation is competing with you. Is he gunning for you?
What gets to me though is thought that he might be doing this just to have some common ground with me.
Thanks for reading,

My 10 year old does the occasional row. I find taking a video of him works as subtle motivation (as well as letting him watch TV when he otherwise wouldnt be)Jack S. wrote:and I couldn't be happier!
