The ultimate blister fix for me
The ultimate blister fix for me
Ok so when i get a blister and it has popped I tear off the skin, apply a big drop of polysporin and then cover with a bandaid. Do so until u get skin falling off the blister area. To prevent the blister from drying out, I use polysporin for the following week. I find that if I follow that, raw skin is painlessly rowable within 3 days. If the blister hasnt popped yet, dont pop it for as long as you can, since this allows the skin to do what was mentioned above naturally. Anyways....Hope it helps
I don't seem to get blisters of significance on the plastic erg handle for some reason but had real problems with wooden oars when I rowed as a boy. My fix back then was to use electrical tape as a preventative measure and it seemed to work really well. Just tape up any fingers that blister, or even the whole palm if that is your problem.
One guy I rowed with did not look after his blisters, had a lot of bleeding and ended up with blood poisoning, so its good to be careful!

I reverse wrap the handle with nylon socks, and never have any problem with blisters.

Wow blood poisoning...never had any teammates get that bad...although on our team many look like mummies when they hit the water because they WRAP their hands in the tape lol. Normally I use thin athletic tape and wrap once or twice over the blister...normally i pop it, put a small bandaid over it and then put a thin layer of tape...usually works long enough until the blister has healed. I think its more of a personal preference though...whatever works for you.
