reasonable erg time goal for 2000k

Post by thomasan » November 12th, 2006, 4:48 pm

I'm approximately 5'5" and 185 and in good shape. What is a reasonable goal to shoot for in a 2000k. What role does height play on the rower? Does being shorter and not having as long a pull stroke prevent me from having a low time such as in the low 6 min. range?

If you look at the above, or at the BIRC results yesterday, you can see what people like you (as to age, weight) have been up to in terms of pace and rating. Do some sums to see what they've done in terms of metres/stroke, W/kg, W-minutes/stroke etc, and check yours.

Try it too: and there's all sorts of tests if you're prepared to risk your tendons, back etc. Try a hard but controlled 500m (maybe basing the pace on a flat out 100m test). 2k will be 10-12% slower than the 500 when you are fit.

Whatever your height, by adjusting the drag you can find a setting that will let you make the most of your stroke length and row at a powerful but relaxed and comfortable force/length combination, at all ratings.
