Ranking ranges ...

Post by GeorgeD » October 17th, 2006, 4:04 am

When you go to have a look at how your last PB ranked you are faced with the 10 year age breaks. Whether this is right or wrong is not the point to the poll (tho it can be if you want to :) )

So the question is do you alter or not .... :?:

I have no interest in what people younger( and probably stronger) than me can pull. I marvel in awe at the conditioning people older than me are in! (Helps set my sights on what is possible to achieve.) But mostly I like to know if I'm keeping up or lagging behind others in my age and weight group. This just gives me a benchmark on how I'm doing or how much I need to improve to at least keep in the middle of the peer pack.

A couple years ago I checked to see to what age younger than me had the same number of performances faster than my times as those older, and this came out to 2 years. So for me being age 58, I set the range from age 56 to 99 lightweight.

Now at age 60 I would set it for age 58 to age 99 lightweight.

Although I started checking my performances looking at relative rankings, 40-50, HWT, and male, I often open up the rankings, or more frequently, look at performances for those younger than me.

Also, living in New York, I am isolated from active on-the-water rowing, so I have been trying to find local CII training partners. For this, I search more open-ended, looking for people in my area who might be amenable to working out together.
