Pyramid training
This is most effective over a long distance, to avoid the need to spin during the exercise. From a rolling start, the crew rows 10 strokes at race pace, then winds down for 10 strokes (but still rowing, light-half pressure). Then there is a 20 stroke race pace section, followed by twenty strokes light/half pressure, and so on - 30 strokes, possibly 40 strokes - then reducing the number each time back down to 10.
