Model D Storage

Post by Alledieps » May 20th, 2006, 12:35 pm

Hey,
This is a question directed at one of the c2 guys here on the forum. I know you shouldn't store the model D upright with the monorail attached because its bad for the erg, but what exactly does it hurt on the erg? The only thing I could think of is warping the fan cage. Thanks.

All of the model D's (less than 2 years old) at my rowing club that have been stored on end with the monorail attached (I'd never heard this wasn't supposed to be done, so I'm learning something new from you.) have had at least one of the leg attachment points (welds) break loose. This can be fixed with a washer and a nut, though all the Model C's (most 3+ years old) which have been treated in the same manner do not show this same issue. My suggestion would be to just be gentle (which I know our club ergs see little of) and you would probably not have the same issue, as you can't really do anything to fix this until it finally breaks. Fortunately it doesn't cause a funtional problem, since once it's back in rowing position the weight of the rower holds everything in place.
Erg on,
