I have a 2k time trial next saturday and I was just wondering what other peoples strategies were regarding, drag, stroke rating, constant or varying splits, etc.

Is it your first time out of the gate?

Even splits are the most efficient, but you had better have a good warm-up plan.
Descending splits with a 3-4 second spread are easier on you.
Fly and Die, is both painful and very often slow. Just think about that for a second, if you are going to be pulling strokes taht are 10 seconds slow in pace than you were in the first 500, you may as well pull them inthe first 500 and then burn it up.

Drag should be what you are used to training with, limit it to +5 if you want to increase it slightly, do not lower it.

Stroke Rate has to be something that you are familiar with, and will keep you in the range of 210-230 total strokes for the race.

Do you have any other recent PB data to base a reasonable target off?

I had quite an experience with my first 2k test.... because it was also my very first time on an erg - So I didn't know anything beyond PULL REALLY ^$^&^$#%$ HARD....

Needless to say, I did. I got a 7:14 and it was the most painful thing I have ever done on an erg. Throat burned for a good 15 minutes...forearms and quads were out of commission...lost my voice the next day.... bad stuff.

On my erg tests now I like to try to stay dead on my target split +1 second or so the whole time (with a burst at the beginning and then a dead on sprint with 200 to go with whatever I have left) That should land you right on your goal time.

Try doing 1:30 on :30 off workouts at your 2k target pace (+1 or 2 if necessary) To build up your tolerance at a given split.

-Tory
