Yes. It involves maintaining a positive focus. Easier said than done. This is an area I am also striving to improve.
My handbook in this 'intangilbe' area of mental focus and toughness is a book by Terry Orlick, "In Pursuit of Excellence
How to win in sport and life through mental training" It is very well done. Mentioning areas such as Mental Preparation for Excellence, distraction control, and visions of excellence.

THrough all this I have also found helpful to maintain a positive outlook throughout an erg piece by pre-setting my goal pace for the workout. Accomplishing that pace or beating it during the workout motivates me and pushes me onward. Conversely, accepting the falling short of goal pace by viewing as a learning experience in lieu of failure goes along with maintaining a positive out look.
