I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm wondering if anyone has some reccomendations for goals when rowing. I've just started rowing (this afternoon actually) at the gym and I intend on making it a daily event. I'm a music student (tuba performance) and fitness is often an overlooked part of a practice routine. Anyways, general fitness is my goal with a bit of weight loss. Today I was able to row for 30 minutes and my distance was 6050m. I'm wondering whether I should stick to 30 minutes and improve distance, pick a distance and improve time, or any other methods? I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance,
Ian

As your goal is general fitness and weight loss then I would say that 30min is a nice period to spend at your rowing on a daily basis, tho I would be inclined to mix it up with other forms of cardio if that was the case for variety and sanity.

If you want a bit of a challenge then I would look at sitting down and punching in 30min, using the first 5 min to warm up then see what you can hammer out for the next 20 then use the last 5 min as a cool down again.

Technique is important but not critical given your aims, more as need to prevent injury but good technique will add to your pace and added pace to satisfaction and satisfaction to the ongoing enjoyment and motivation.

You can also look at the online ranking here for certain distances that you could complete in your 30 min and by logging your meters rowed in a personal log earn yourself some milestones and a T-shirt.

regds George
