I'm training for my first big 2k race and was wondering if anyone had any advice on tapering...
Thanks in advance!

The duration and extent of your taper will depend on the length and intensity of your buildup. For most people this would involve taking the last week fairly easy, you will not lose fitness but it is important to keep your speed work going. This will probably involve a few race starts and some efforts up to 250m maybe only 3 or 4 on any given day with good rests in between of easy paddling. Generally it is an 'easy' week to allow the energy stores to build up, the body fully recover, and dont underestimate the 'mental' aspect of it all. Go into the race with a plan based on what you have learnt about your capabilities thru training and 'stick' with it !!!

Just my thoughts, better to listen to an expert :D have look at this thread Xeno's plan

George
