Resuscitating a Model C?

I'm apartment-hunting. As always, I check the gym (if the building has one) for rowers. When they do have one (rare) it's often not a Concept 2. Boo!

But I saw an apartment I like, with a gym, with a Concept 2. Yay! But it's a beat-up Model C. Like, the fan housing doesn't look fully bolted together. It still works -- a guy was rowing on it as I walked by, albeit that he was rowing *very* slowly, so no idea if the shock cord is in shape, or if the fan is balanced, etc.

So: assuming I'm willing to buy some parts and a tool kit -- is there any reason to think I won't be able to get that C back in shape? Can it take a PM5 update?

You can fit a PM5 to a model C but you need to buy the "retrofit" kit. That gets a different monitor arm plus the PM5 is programmed for model B/C rather than model D/E/Rowerg (normal setting).

There's a series of radio buttons on the order form at https://shop.concept2.com/performance-m ... nitor.html to allow you to pick which monitor and extras you need. Costs $185 for the model C version (as opposed to $160 for the model D/E).

I saw pictures of C2's which were full of dust, looked like driven over by a truck after decades of abuse in a boathouse and still were restored to pristine order. All parts are still sold by C2 I think. Only thing is that an unbalanced flywheel typically requires buying a new one, which might turn out expensive. So it might be quite doable.
