Outer knee pain

Post by Moko12345 » March 8th, 2022, 7:55 pm

Been having a dull ache in lateral side of knee since December after each rowing session. Is okay while actually erging but gets gradually more painful for the 2-3 days following a session. Pain has now radiated into calf and up my hamstring a bit… Very annoying and nothing’s really helping it! Does anyone have a similar problem?

Moko,

Welcome to the forum.

How confident are you that your technique is correct?

For example, are your shins vertical at the catch? Are your feet at the correct height? etc.

Good luck tracking this down - in general I've found that the rower is much easier on my knees than cycling, and I haven't had any significant problems there.

You've given this time to get better.

See a doctor.

Rowing is really low impact, it's used to rehab from knee problem. Something else could be root cause and you want an expert to tell you what it is and how to treat it. Some problems can be halted, but not reversed, so you don't want to let this go too long.

I'm sure you've googled this already. Here are 5 possible causes. https://springloadedtechnology.com/2019 ... asons-why/ https://www.verywellhealth.com/knee-pai ... ms-2549628 etc. Knees are tricky, self diagnose is probably not your best option.
