Workouts not 'verified' despite confirming calibration and logging via USB flash drive

Post by RGS » September 2nd, 2021, 8:08 am

Whilst the vast majority of my workouts have been recorded correctly as 'verified', I just noted that the past few weeks' worth have not.

I'm not sure why that should be the case as I always use a USB flash drive and always confirm calibration before each session (and recalibrate whenever required).

The BikeErg itself is only six months old and in close to daily use. I have noticed a few issues with the PM5 from time to time, in that it might throw up an error or two and sometimes appears to lose the connection with the flywheel. This has never occurred during a session (only when checking the damper setting for eg, which I also do before each workout) and is usually fixable by removing and reinserting the flash drive and/or turning off/on the PM5. I'd experienced similar issues with the BikeErgs at the rowing club so presumed this was just software bugginess rather than anything else.

All the cables (that I can see/check are secure) and the machine in kept in pristine condition, wiped down and dried after every session.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Robert

After much frustration I finally gave up on trying to use a flash drive. I'm sure that it's because I'm a total luddite who makes mistakes somewhere along the chain of insertions and button pushing. Sometimes it would work on the RowErg, but never on the BikeErg.

Recently I managed to get my iPhone to work (so far anyway, knock on wood) by watching the video on the C2 site that walked me through all the steps. Turned out that my previous failed attempts at using the phone were because I didn't hit 'connect' on the PM5 (I thought when the phone said it was trying to connect that it was supposed to do so on its own).

Anyway, if you have a phone you might want to give that a try instead of the flash drive. Sorry I can't be of more help.

You'll only get verified for a pre-programmed time or distance that is one of the ranking events.

For timed workouts that's 1 min, 4 min, 30 min, 60 min
For distance workouts that's 100m, 500m, 1K, 2K, 5K, 6K, 10K, 21097m, 42195m, 100K

Just row workouts don't verify. Workouts that aren't ranking distances don't verify.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Yup, totally aware that it's only for set distances, which is exactly what I'm doing, eg 20K (a rankable distance on the BikeErg). I can rank the pieces just fine; the problem is that they're no longer verified.

It was working fine previously...

Am aware that you can use various apps, such as C2's ErgData, but would much rather use a USB drive.

Something else I've noticed is that a few rust spots have started to appear on the flywheel grille. Not over the moon about this, particularly as I religiously wipe the machine down after every single session and dry if off immediately after. The rust can be removed pretty easily, but returns rapidly. I never saw it on any of the club BikeErgs and they were older, not looked after nearly as well, and pretty heavily used.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Cheers,

Robert

Write an email to info@concept2.com and ask them to look at your problem.

Updating the firmware seems to have fixed the 'verified' issue.
