New to Rowing and Looking for Training Plans

Post by bcaruthers » August 6th, 2019, 1:38 pm

Hello All! I just bought a rower to lose weight and get in better shape. I tried it once and found it challenging, but loved that it didn't hurt my knees, unlike the treadmill. I was just wondering if anyone could suggest any training plans for beginners for weight loss? There is a YouTuber named Training Tall that sales a rowing for weight loss plan that I was looking at, but I am not sure if that is the direction that I should go or if there are resources online that will be just as good. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you need to buy anything - there is a huge amount of information here especially for beginners in the training sub forum. The beginners Pete Plan is great but get some fitness and technique first - have a look at the Pete thread above

Totally agree with Lindsay, there is no need to pay for a training plan, just follow the Pete Plan

There are no magic plans, its all about making meters. Use a pace thats doable but not easy and build on this, the more meters the better.

And don,t be fooled, your eating habbits matter a lot, those have to change. If we row a full hour at 2.00 pace we only burn 1000 cal. So eat poorly and you get nowhere.
Drop the crap, eat plenty of protein and patience, meters meters, meters...

Absolutely agree - no matter how much you force your body to row, unless it's a huge number of meters day after day after day, you won't loose much weight if you don't eat properly.

And for most people who need to loose a few pounds (that includes me) "eat properly" means eat less.

Thank you all for the tips! I get my rower on Monday, after a delivery set back. I’m looking forward to learning proper form and getting the meters in.

Spend some time looking around on the C2 web site, they have lots on info, including technique videos and some ideas for workouts. At the start it's worth investing the time with the basics before putting too much effort into a training plan.

Personally, I think plans like the Pete Plan, or even the Beginner's Pete Plan ramp up the meters way too quickly for someone who's just starting to row. But if it works for you and your body can handle it, then great.

Good Luck
