testing time

Post by csabour » March 23rd, 2006, 8:11 pm

2 days of testing for my school's 8+ is going to be taking place next weekend...

FRIDAY
6km erg test
8km timed run

SATURDAY
2km erg test
Strength testing;
Deadlift, Backsquat, Benchpull

What I'd like is for some advice on the run... I rarely run (with the exception of this fall). How should i go about this?

I don't have a good idea of the length of the run, im thinking 35 minutes or so. I want to keep it as steady as i can, I'd like to do that VIA heart rate. Does anyone know what my HR should stay at for the body of the piece? I was thinking 185 - 195 but I'm not really sure how that is on a run.

Thanks.

csabour,

You will get your fastest run time with even splits or a slightly negative split. Since you do not run very often and may not be able to judge an even pace, my recommendation would be to go out and feel lke you are holding yourself back for the first mile. After that you can start to pick it up if you feel like you are still holding back. After a mile you should have a good idea how much more you can pick it up. Better to go out to slow and finish fast then go out fast and die!

Based on your Avatar, I think 35 minutes will be a little out of your reach :wink: :D
