export of .fit or .tcx files to Garmin Connect
Is it possible to properly export workouts from log.concept2.com to Garmin Connect via either a fit or tcx file? I get errors for fit files in GC (An error occurred with your upload. Please try again.), and as to the tcx files - they show only first interval in the summary and splits data. The files are imported by GC only in case there are no intervals in the recorded workouts.
I've been getting my sessions to GC via Strava for a while, but the export from Strava to GC via tapiriik.com has stopped working for me either since late December, so I'm seeking other possible solutions.
Thanks

We have a similar issue exporting to inport into "Golden Cheetah" we cycle as well.. My lady did 20 Km last week but stopped to answer the door during here session. When we export / import only the first section is logged although her online logbook does state 20 Km. Tried importing into Strava and exactly the same result. Single contiuous rows are imported fine.....

Re: export of .fit or .tcx files to Garmin Connect
Thanks, did you manage to import a fit file or a tcx?
Fit files are all discarded in my case, and tcx versions have something wrong about splits breakdown in them. The platforms that ignore splits (Strava, Training Peaks) import them fine, but Garmin Connect shows only the first split (often erroneously as well) both in the summary data and in the splits section.
I spent some time on the phone with a Garmin support representative yesterday, they say fit files are corrupt, and they need to further investigate issues with tcx. Concept2 support people have been unresponsive so far, hope they react to my message. Looks like there is not much interest in this feature.

.FIT file importing on the Garmin website doesn't work, even importing .FIT files from their watches don't work for me. But I can download .TCX files (generated from ErgData) from Concept2 online log and import them to the Garmin website and it does retain all data, including splits and even resting periods.
The most recent ErgData 1.59 update at the end of 2017 fixed the wrong timezone problem, so I've been importing all my Concept2 workouts into Garmin.

Thank you, I will try the Android version, hope this solves the issue. I'm using Ipad to log workouts, the ErgData version is 1.3.5(2). Thought the export to TCX or FIT is independent from the ErgData version used.FRiC wrote:The most recent ErgData 1.59 update at the end of 2017 fixed the wrong timezone problem, so I've been importing all my Concept2 workouts into Garmin.

Re: export of .fit or .tcx files to Garmin Connect
I tried Android ErgData and TCX export-import yesterday and today, it's a hit and miss really. My test one, several different short intervals, recorded well, all data present in Garmin Connect. My yesterday routine 2x15'UT1 appeared to be 13 min shorter than the total time in the summary, and the splits data totally missed the first 15 min interval. My today 3x12'UT1 shows 8 min warm up only in Garmin Connect, no interval data present either in the summary or splits section.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I use ErgData on Android. But hmm, I'll give it another go and see, I just started using ErgData -> Concept 2 online log -> GC recently so I haven't done much testing beyond "Just Row". But I noticed that one of the release notes for ErgData Android is "Fixed issue which prevented the logging of interval data unless a heart rate sensor is used". Are you using a HRM?

Yes, I'm using HRM. I think the release note you quoted is related to the logbook rather than the capability to export data. Never had any issues with logging interval data in the logbook itself previously though.
My take on the current status of C2 logbook ==> Garmin Connect export is as follows yet:
- TCX export is not reliable, some interval data is lost and not shown in GC unpredictably, some data is excluded from the summary and from splits breakdown of the workout page in a totally random fashion. Probably, there is an issue with the import of laps breakdown from the file.
- FIT files have some errors that lead to GC rejecting them with an error message. These errors could be corrected as I was demonstrated on Garmin forums - my FIT file was repaired by the Fit File Repair Tool. The resulting import into GC was a success, with full data present including strokes (no strokes are present in any TCX import), but excluding intervals (laps). It's quite possible that the repair of the FIT done by FFRP ended up in the removal of the interval data from the file.
- I'm still to find a service that imports TCX or FIT and exports to Garmin as a workaround. Strava and Training Peaks import the files (also, there is a direct online export from Logbook to both of them), but there is no connection from these platforms to GC, only from GC to them. Tapiriik.com has stopped exporting from Strava to Garmin Connect altogether since late December in my case, it shows all workouts as exported but nothing appears in GC. Historically I was able to export TCX to Strava and then transfer my workouts to GC via Tapiriik. Most likely there was some change implemented on GC since I tried simultaneous Strava to TP export via Tapiriik, and it worked.

Re: export of .fit or .tcx files to Garmin Connect
By way of an update, in case someone needs this functionality:
(1) C2 Logbook has started producing FIT files that could be imported in Garmin Connect (or, alternatively, GC has corrected something in their import algorithm). The imported workouts contain all data and some additional unnecessary fields such as temperature (set at 0 Celsius), elevation (constant at minus 500 m), and GPS (ground zero location). These could be removed using online fitfiletools field stripper. There's no split section / intervals data in the imports. Both FIT files created by ErgData IOS and Android are imported this way now, historical workouts as well.
(2) I seem to have located the issue with TCX files output by the Logbook. The exported files include randomly introduced "dummy" lap data strings (or at least I think they are redundant - I'm not a programmer) that look like this:
<Lap StartTime="2018-01-17T18:51:00Z ">
<TotalTimeSeconds>0</TotalTimeSeconds>
<DistanceMeters>2</DistanceMeters>
<MaximumSpeed>0</MaximumSpeed>
<Calories></Calories>
<Intensity>Resting</Intensity>
<TriggerMethod>Manual</TriggerMethod>
<Track>
</Track>
</Lap>
Deleting these blocks in a text editor repairs the file, it's imported by Garmin Connect in full, shows all info you would expect except the number of strokes, and even provides complete details on the intervals in the split section. Hope C2 correct their export mechanics shortly, I don't think it's difficult to do.

Re: export of .fit or .tcx files to Garmin Connect
Unfortunately, the .FIT import lacks timezone information. C2 fixed timezone in .TCX files in a previous update, so I'm guessing it's a C2 thing...
