I see all of these posts about what food should be eaten/avoided and I'm completely confused! I'm a novice river rower, trying to get faster on th erg over the next few weeks ready for our senior squad trials in the middle of Jan. At the same time I'm also trying to shift the weight I've put on whilst I've been fed well at Uni!

Could someone explain what sort of food I should be eating, and vice versa, particularly on days when I erg? To make matters worse I'm also a terribly fussy eater and won't touch any of the following: wholemeal bread, rice or green vegetables (I live on carrots, parsnips, squash etc) - not good for an athelete I know. By green vegetables, I also mean salad <hides>. However, I'll eat most fruit, meat etc.

Thanks for any information

Chloé
xxx

PS. And before anyone comments I'm spending too much time online again, I'm waiting for my mum to give me a lift to the gym! hehe

I like fried scorpions, mice rolled in honey and pepper, bear stew, live fish or squid climbing up my chopsticks, so long as it's clear that they are the lunch and not me..

But I wouldn't touch things like green vegetables either, unless that's all the wife sticks in front of me in the form of minestrone. Scrumptious in the extreme.

Mediterranean diet and you can't go wrong.

And in any case don't think a few minutes on the erg makes you need something rare and strange - on the contrary.

I'm not an expert, but just suggestion. Couldn't replace your fresh vegtables by juices? Get a juice maker. I think raw vegtables bring in two vital ingredients:

1 fibers to stimulate the intenstines and avoid some types of cancers.
2 Vitamins and minerals. The more ingredients are heated or treated otherwise, the more vitamines are denaturated and minerals are lost.

Juices couldn't bring in the fibers but would surely provide you with vitamins and minerals.
