After erging for a period of time of about 10-12 mins my abs begin to feel like I am doing a sit-up every stroke. Could this be caused by laying back too far for a few years and damaging the muscles or some other mistake in technique? Does anyone know what might be the problem and some solutions? Thanks for your help.

Hard to say not knowing your background or seeing you row, but my best guess would be watch yourself in a mirror to make sure you're not laying back too much and also add in some more abs to your workout routine.
