At the Head of the Charles, crews can incur penalties if they don't properly yield to a passing boat or if they collide with another boat. But does the crew that is a victim of the penalized boat's actions get any kind of bonus time subtracted from their finishing time? Last year USRowing failed to yield to the University of Washington and Washington got stuck for a few seconds next to the USRowing boat. They went on to win even though Harvard ahead of them did not get tangled up with another boat.
Also, the winning time in the Men's Lightweight Eights was faster than the winning time in the Men's Championship Eights. Isn't that surprising? Do you know why?

If it was at a different time of day, it is not surprising. Water and weather conditions change and can have a big effect on the time.sharp_rower wrote:

No, no time is added/subtracted from the "victim's" time. Only the guilty boat is assessed a penalty.sharp_rower wrote:At the Head of the Charles, crews can incur penalties if they don't properly yield to a passing boat or if they collide with another boat. As for the winning times - while that was a very fast champ L8, comparing results from different times in the day is futile, as conditions can change drastically.
