Does Anyone Use Wifi For Rowpro?

Has anyone tried using a wifi system to connect? What happened?<br /><br />grams

I've never used it any other way ... it works with no problems.<br /><br />I have also used it, during a power failure, with a cellular (Verizon) broadband card. It worked without a hitch.<br /><br />I would recommend that if you're going to use it on a laptop that's not plugged into AC power, just battery power, make sure to set the Windows setting so they don't automatically hibernate the machine, disable disk drives, otherwise go into power save mode, or bring up the screen saver ... one or more of these can either end your RowPro session, or frustrate the living daylights out of you since all you see is a blank screen! Learned this one the hard way ...

The rower obviously (maybe not obviously) needs to be physically plugged into a computer using a usb cable. So there is no wifi or wireless connection between the machine and the rower.<br /><br />Many of us use a wireless connection for our computers to access the internet. In my experience, and this was confirmed by Pete at digital rowing, you do need to maintain a certain amount of signal strength. Not sure what this is actually, but signal strength much below 50% and you run the risk of drop outs and packet loss. The loss of even one packet can be fatal for an online race (but you would never notice it browsing the web). So I recommend a good strong wifi connection for racing.

I used a wireless connection between the laptop in the garage (by the erg) and the "home" computer w/the DSL connection. Signal strength was "good." Didn't have any trouble. That was my first time on rowpro, so only one data point for you.

I can support that Wlan works fine for me. I'm using a USB cable from my monitor to the PC and no other wires, so no power adapter and no internet cables. You success may depend on a stable internet provider though. <br /><br />/Anna

Thanks everyone for your input. I had hoped to give it a try before we left on our roadtrip. I thought online erging from fabulous venues (rv parks) in the US southwest sunshine would be a cool thing to try. <br /><br />Life intrudes. Family crises, broken home wifi network, etc etc. You may or may not see me online in the near future.<br /><br />grams
