Alternate Handles?

Post by Little John » December 5th, 2012, 3:49 pm

Hi all,
Wondering what options are out there for handles. As a bigger guy, my arms can't stay parallel when I stroke - I don't know if this is causing my tennis elbow, but it does get a bit uncomfortable after awhile. I suppose I could mess around with motorcycle or bicycle handlebars, but I was wondering what other people did.

Get yourself a Model D handle it is 490mm long where as the old wooden Model C handle is only 410mm long. This makes a significant difference if your wider in the shoulders and the Model D handle is more ergonomic due to the angle on it as well. Cannot really see anyone needing a wider handle than this with the right technique.

That's right, the model D grip was a great upgrade (over the C's wood) for me, only $15 usd too!

I've got the 'D' - I think I'll look at some mountain bike bars and do some craftsmanship to thicken up the handle.

Perhaps others can add their experience here but I do not really "Grip" the handle, rather kind of "Hook" the handle with my fingers so the thickness of it is not a problem.

These tricked out C2 are anlong the right track

Ha - Larry, those are the rowers that made me think it's possible. I don't see me adding the KTM paintjob, but I think a $10 pair of MTN bike grips would be worth the effort. So I ordered a set. Details to follow...

I put these on my C2. They work great! http://www.southbayriders.com/forums/at ... 1327976116

The handlebars were easy to drill through.

Question 1: What are the specifications for the bolt hole to be drilled through the handle?

Background: I would like to stop by a local bicycle shop and purchase a set of handlebars like the ones pictured. I would like to ask them to drill the hole, (I believe they will accomodate me,) w/o bringing the "U" bolt in.

Question 2: Can someone please provide a link to the site where the motocross handles are pre-made to fit C2s ?

Thank you !

There's no details about the size of the PN244 U-bolt. The nuts are 7/16th in. AF (got that from http://www.concept2.com/files/pdf/us/in ... ematic.pdf). So you'll need to take a micrometer or calipers in to your gym to measure it.

That's awesome! My motorcycle used to have those grips - swapped them out for a pair of Ourys, though.

Got the MTB handlebar this weekend, I'll drill and wrap them tonight and try them out, but the width appears perfect and the angle is pretty close to the angle of the stock grip. Pictures to follow.

Here she is - I like it after 5 minutes. The handlebar angle matches the stock angle, but it's ~5" wider. I double-wrapped with roadbike foam. Total cost = $24. I'm doing a 10K tonight to be sure I like it.
