PM3 erratic operation.

Post by kenboyle » January 2nd, 2012, 10:55 am

I have a PM3 monitor mounted on my Model C. The firmware SW is version 308. I am experiencing erratic operation. The data varies wildly from high spm's and splits. One pull 1:53 @ 86 spm to 2:17 @ 14 spm, for example. I changed the batteries, fresh new batterise and the monitor seemed to operate ~normally but only for a week or so. Now back to erratic operation. I see the firmware version I am running is outdated. I plan to update it but don't feel this will solve the problem. Does anyone have advise/experience on this behavior?

Go into the Product ID screen and check that it is set to a model C.

It is probably set to D so you want to go into the hidden menu and change it.

From the LCD Contrast screen hit the Change units 3 times and then the Change display 3 times and the hidden menu comes up.

Update your firmware anyway from 308 to 311 as your current version is old.

If this doesn't fix it then you have a problem with the tach input on the monitor like a loose or broken socket or a problem on the board itself or fractured tach pickup wire.

Thanks Carl.
I checked the product ID and it was set for B/C. I then upgraded the Firmware to version 312 (not 311 as advertised) cleaned and replugged connections, then rowed a 60' SS piece. The Monitor worked great, very solid. Not certain what made the difference, I think probably the firmware upgrade!
Cheers and Thanks Mate,
