Patellar tendon rupture and erging

Post by lobo1473 » September 14th, 2011, 1:18 pm

I am a 62 year old male who has been fairly active. On July 25, while playing handball, I ruptured my left patellar tendon; I had surgery the next day. Its been approximately 7 weeks since the surgery so (hopefully) I will soon start rehab. I have owned various Concept II ergs since 1990. I currently own a Model D. I row sporadically but it looks like I will be erging and using the elliptical for cardio. Does anybody who has had similar surgery (I believe ruptured quadriceps tendon surgery is similar) have any advice or tips for me? Thanks in advance. Bob C.

Hi Bob C. I am 65 now. I ruptured my left quad tendon in September 2008. I was able to get back on the erg about 4 - 5 months into my rehab. Consult with your rehab doctor first, of course. I started by just keeping my left leg straight out for a few weeks and just bending my right knee. Its a little awkward, but it works.

Good health to you! MarvinH

Marvin - Thanks for your advice. I haven't been able to do any cardio for 2 months but will probably go the elliptical route for a time before going back to rowing. Thanks again. Bob C
